Latest edition of "Dealer News" has made its way into my house today, with some interesting stats on PTW registration data.

Figures given are for Jan 2007 cos they work a quarter in arrears.

First some good news, overall registrations of new PTWs are up 6% on the same period last year. Thumbs Up

I wonder if you can guess what the most-registered PTW of the year so far is? With nearly 3 times as many new registrations as any other bike?

Winner gets a cookie........ those of you that I know are in the trade please keep Silence for a little bit longer, don't spoil the fun........... Very Happy

Excuse my ignorance, but what's a PTW? Couldn't find a Google definition.

In which case, I'm going to guess it's either a GSXR600, or a ZX636.

Wooly got the cookie! Very Happy

Jan 2007 saw over 300 YZF R6 newly registered.

Bit over optimistic on the others though Wooly......... Laughing

Full list of the most popular new bikes is as follows:

1 Yam YZF R6 305
2 Honda CBR1000RR 112
3 Baotian BT49 QT9 103 (no I dunno what it is either, some scoot I think)
4 Honda SCV100 Lead 82
5 Yam YBR125 76
6 Pug Speedfight 50 72
7 Yam YZF R1 71
8 Yam FZ6 Fazer 68
9= Honda CBR125R 67
9= Suzuki GSF1200 Bandit 67
9= Piaggio Zip 67

Biggest leap (although none of them made the top sellers for their cc) was in adventure/supermoto bikes, sales of those increased by 46% compared to last year.

Most popular 2nd hand bikes searched for in the same period (figures from Autotrader) were CBR600 and GSXR600, closely followed by the R6 again.

Off to wash my anorak now.......... Mr. Green

They reckon a lot of dealers registered them as demonstrator bikes as well with it being a new model, which may have pushed the figure up a bit.

isnt it amazing how few bikes are sold! it is amazing they make a profit compared to the amount of cars sold and that are on the road.I reckon the goverment should encourage people onto two wheels tax breaks or something.People argue that bikes are dangerous but the bikes biggest danger is car drivers so if over a quarter changed to a bike would'nt that decrease the accident rate?
