Smile Hi all, new to all this but thought it would be good to get some feedback and any help (which I think I am going to need big time!) any way....

I live in Worcestershire and I am a mad keen motocross-er! Just gone from my YZ250F to a KTM 450, great Very Happy but for about a year or so I have been think about setting up a shop in this area (there doesn't seem to be any here at all) for parts, gear, outerwear, second hand bikes etc etc..endless list I guess. When ever I buy anything I either have to travel a distance or I have to get it on Ebay or whatever, like most of you I expect.

So here goes, do you think I should go for it? I know the internet takes a lot of business and I would set up a site too and have mail order, but is it worth doing it?

Let me know what you think!!!! Cheers. Thumbs Up

You think?? Yeah thats what I thought, my mate and I were thinking of doing it together as he is already selling loads of stuff (MX) on Ebay! So next step for him would be a unit anyway. Money is always the problem though.

If you are thinking of going down this route just do as much research as possible (forums like this are a good start). Are there many tracks or byways in the area? If the answer to both is no you're not likely to have much of a market.

It'd probably be a good idea to get down to some local events and get talking with people as they could be really useful. Usually there's a trailer or two selling bike bits at most of the local MX events down here, that could be something to think about.

South Coast Racing does exactly what you're talking about near me and they're generally very busy selling bikes, kit, you name it.

There's a KTM dealer in Ledbury:

Dual Sport Motor Cycles Ltd
Unit 5, Little Marcle Rd Industrial Estate, Little Marcle Rd, Ledbury, Herefordshire HR8 2DR
Tel: 01531 632745

and one in Tewkesbury:

AMS Motorcycles
Unit 4200, Oakfield Close, Tewkesbury Business Park, Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire GL20 8PF
Tel: 01684 292929
www.ams4ktm.co.uk/index.php

but I suppose your success will depend on which part of Worcs you're in and therefore how close you are to these two dealers.

All the best Mr. Green

sorry took a bit long to get back here! well we live in evesham, about 15 miles from AMS (where I get a bit for me now and again) and we are a lot lot further from Ledbury! We live about 12 miles from Worcester, 18 Cheltenham, 15 Stratford.

Yep I do get to quite a few practice tracks in the area, foxwalks, apex etc etc, I didn't know about the place in the shambles which goes to show that anyone I have spoken to must be in the same boat. I will go and have a look at that - cheers.

As you say worth giving it a go but need to do research. Getting a unit is the first step - I own my own engineering business (if you guys ever in Worcestershire and need welding come on down!!!) and the solicitors fees were a killer on the unit I have.
