Got my ZX9 in the garage for a valve check and shim today and they've given me an old XJ600 diversion to ride about on.
Frankly its a wreck! Back brake doesnt work - at all, Speedo doesnt work, keys dont stay in the ignition (start it then take keys out and put in pocket to stop them falling out). Engine sounds rough as hell. No idea what the mileage is but it stopped at 17K. Suspension is so bouncy its comical.
I would post a pic but cosmetically it doesnt look that bad.
The other thing, considering this is a 600, it feels like a more powerful CG125. I'm amazed at how light and 'toylike' it feels. The bikes a dog, and no doubt a well looked after diversion is in general a better bike, but I'd still never have one - ever! This is 2 years younger (N plate) than my old CBR6 but the CBR was such a better bike.
Quite surprised that a main dealer would give this out to customers, as if it was involved in an accident, or even pulled over, the police would have a field day. Still, better than getting the bus
Good thing about it is that I cant wait to get mine back this afternoon - will really make me appreciate it more! |

Mine ended up with 35k on the clocks before the engine gaskets (top and bottom) started to seep oil and the exhaust was replaced at 30k as the old one was totally shot.
The rear shock was made of rust and wouldn't adjust at all.
Mind you, I kinda loved the bike because it was flickable and would chase down sports bikes on the twisties..
Yes it was underpowered at 200+KG and 60bhp but I still remembered the fun with a misty eye as I kept walking past the ol' girl for the next few weeks as it sat in the bike shop yard. Then one day it was gone... Someone else inherited the "Joy" of owning a Divvy..
