Hello

Well, some stupid twat this morning decided that she didn't need to stop at a roundabout despite my girlfriends bike being in front of her! Girlfriend is allright, knee and elbow are a bit bashed. YBR has survived surprisingly well! Rear mudguard/ number plate/ l plate destroyed, one rear panel broken, front nose fairing smashed, footpegs, levers etc etc.

The car driver seemed keen to settle privatly so i'm just getting prices for bits now. The problem is I don't know which rear panel to order. They seem to be coloured - but they list 9 in the parts manual.

Anybody know what colour this is ?

It's actually just called Yamaha Blue.

But which one is which in the parts manual ??

MRE is red
BL2 is black
YNM is yellowish grey metallic

So no blue Confused

And what is the difference between say BL2 (b) and BL2 (D)?

Cheers

They still make blue YBRs.
Try calling Yamaha or your nearest dealer up.

Normally the colour code should be written on the headstock somewhere. Get the code, look it up, and order your parts.

Dont waste your time mate.

As soon as you tell her the price she will want to go through the insurance anyway.

Best bet is to take it to your local Yamaha Dealer and get a quote from them inc Labour and pass it on, then if she should agree and come up with the readies you can do it yourself Wink

Apparently because it is a Chinese Yamaha, it isn't a Yamaha! I will probably just get coloured panels and charge her to have them sprayed properly.

At the end of the day the nearest delaer is about 30 miles away - the bike has no indicators or numberplate on it and I have no way of getting it over there. The dealer in question is also shit so I don't want to take it there! Would rather get the parts, do the job properly and get it back on the road ASAP as she uses it for commuting.

If it's as clear cut as you say (i.e. no chance of your gf being held partly responsible), go through insurance. And report to police (you did do this didn't you?)

that way, when cager driving numpty comes to renew she might be reminded how impolite it is to drive into people, for a couple of years at least.

Phone up the dealer (or yamaha direct) and give them the bike details, VIN number etc.. and they shoudl have all the colour codes on file and will be able to tell exactley what you need.

Get your girlfriend down the docs to get the accident on her records and start the claim through insurance.

I had a similar spill, walked away with bruises didn't feel too bad.

Now 8 months on, I'm still getting trouble with trapped nerves in my neck which affect the feeling in my arms and left leg, caused from whiplash, and am having a MRI spinal scan next week for possible compressed discs. These problems didn't start until a week or two after the crash and an independent Dr verified that they were crash related.

Don't get me wrong I'm delighted that I got away without serious injury and I hope your girlfriend doesn't have any similar problems, but don't settle for a few quid to put her bike right, make sure she is completely ok first.

Where there is blame there is a claim. Do it properly, insurance, courtesy bike while yours is in being done, injuries. You are not in the wrong the car driver was. Next time she might kill someone. What do you think she would do if you hit her? Always claim.

Do that ^

Also list the other damage, and get a full quote from them to fix it all, including pick up (as the bike isn't roadworthy). Then forward that to the woman.

I guess she won't want to go through insurance, but your girlfriend should report it to her insurance company asap anyway. Far too many people have tried to settle privately with nothing ever materialising.

The bike isn't recognised by the Yamaha dealers because it is a 'Chinese' Yamaha. Apparently it is made by one of yamaha subcontractors, and despite being badged yamaha, yamaha castings etc , none of the numbers are identified by the yamaha database. Panels aren't too expensive so I will just get plain ones and get them resprayed. Cost of parts £150 - she is paying £300!

Have you had a quote for a respray?

It's usually around £500 for a full bike.

Doesn't matter if a Yamaha dealer doesn't recognise it your paying for a job to be done, tell them to get their fingers out their ass and do it.

As for getting the bike there, use a recovery service and bill the drivers insurance. DO NOT settle without insurance as if anything happens medical or you find the frame is bent you have no comeback.

How can they order parts when they don't have the part numbers etc. They don't want the hassle so it will just have to go to the insurance and get written off otherwise.

Painting ain't a problem, helped fix a mates bandit for him, and he does spraying! I will just need to get him the paint.

At the end of the day, she made a mistake, she admitted it and she's happy to sort things out. She hasn't been arsey about any of it. If only every one was this good in an accident. At the end of the day its not like she maliciously ran into her.

Not very good dealers if they don't have sources for other brand bikes, sounds like they are fobbing you off. If the insurance company sent the bike there they would jump at the chance as they can make more money on the repairs. Wink
