Well, I had my first day of DAS today.

Enjoyed every minuite of it, even though I was a little nervous with having not ridden since doing my CBT in October.

I was terrrible for the first couple of hours with general bike control (especially when it came bends Embarassed ) but I made steady improvement throughout the day. I even got a few nods from passing bikes.

I can't wait till tomorrow. Will post details.

Oh, my test is on the 20th March in Wakefield. Does anyone have any details of the route as I may go for a drive on one after work.

Have a look here on the DSA website.......on the right hand side is a list of Wakefield test routes, hope it helps.

Also, I found the post below helpful when preparing for my test:

Good luck with the DAS. Cool

I realise it's a steep learning curve at the beginning, but believe me it's well worth it. I found my DAS to be probably the most rewarding fulfilling learning experience ever Thumbs Up

Thanks for the links Thumbs Up Very useful.

One of my main problems which was evident this morning is Countersteering.

This was not explained in my CBT and it lead to some interesting cornering this morning Whistle Embarassed

PS, I want a BCF sticker for my work's car as i hate being thought of as an ordinary company car driver lol. Where can I get one?

Day 2 finished. Still on a 125 but it's best that I get all the problems sorted before I get on a 500.

After going round Leeds practicing junctions and cornering on faster roads, we went to Wakefield.

Can't wait to get on the GS500 next week. Everybody says that it's easier to handle than the 125's.

good luck mate, and enjoy it! Thumbs Up
i definatley found the 500's easier to ride than the 125, much more stable, and more comfortable too.
doing das is more than worth it, the feeling you get when the examiner tells you you've passed is great Thumbs Up Very Happy

The test is in Wakefield at 1.30 pm. 35 min ride on the test itself.

I have to be at Roadrunners Leeds at the usual 9am so i'll get a fair bit of last minute practise in. Hopefully that'll get rid of the nerves.

Day 3 finished on a really positive note.

As there were some other DAS'ers off for their test in Barnsley, we went for a ride down to Barnsley and back via Wakefield.

No mistakes and no major problems to address so tomorrow i'm on the 500's.

I can't wait.

Day 4 finished.

Was my first day on the GS500. My, the controls are a touch twitchier than the CG. Took about an hour to get used to them in the carpark. Oh, and no I diddn't drop it at all.

After I got used to the bike, I really enjoyed riding it.

Only went round Leeds. I have booded an extra 2 hours on Sunday which may or may not be a waste of money before my test on Tuesday.

Cheers Thumbs Up

The idea of this thread is so people can read my progression from Newbie to licensed Biker. It might be useful for those planning their DAS.

My biggest bit of advice is that if you're old enough, do your test on a 500. They're more stable, easier to ride and you will feel loads more confident riding it.

Yes, the clutch, throttle and brakes are more sensitive but you will get used to them. This is one of the reasons I have booked another 2 hours on Sunday. I have a tendency to let out the clutch too far. (Too used to the car where I hardly use it)

Anyway, at the moment, providing I don't miss too many lifesavers, go too slow or fast and get positioning right, I should pass on Tuesday.

Cheers, been reading that. Very useful. Thumbs Up

With any luck, the examiner might be in a car as there's a cold Artic spell coming. Surely he/she won't wanna be riding about all day testing people when they can be nice and warm in a car.

Great bunch - they put me through my DAS in July last year, and I went from an utterly useless first-timer to a pretty-likely pass in 5 days... and then I went and put my foot down on the u-turn Thumbs Down

They're taking me out for a bimble round Horsforth tomorrow morning. One lesson a fortnight for the next few months and I'll put in for my test again.

When I first got my bike, I was too wibbly to ride it to the training site on my own (I'd never ridden alone before). So they sent the instructor to meet me at my house, to rideout from there.

I'd only moved in here two weeks ago, a quiet neighbourhood, nice houses, a middle-class elderly pair living next door, and up roars Dean on his bright green Ninja, parks outside the neighbours' whilst they're tending to their roses. Takes his lid off to a shock of long greasy hair, lights a roll-up and gives 'em a wave and a grin. Their faces were a picture. I reckon they thought a right 'ol' bunch of us had moved in next door. He's a good instructor though - very patient and takes a real interest in your progress as a rider, not just getting you through a test.

Jason took me for my lesson this morning (red/white CBR600) and it was ace... I was ace! I think Shaun's pretty good too, even though he made me cry during my DAS.
