Just caught sight of a crash down the road from me (East Bank Road in Sheffield). 3 lads on a ped had been hit by a silver Astra-type car.
I was shocked at 1st but got chatting to a copper (I just wondered if it was anyone I know occifer) and he told me the full story.
3 lads were joyriding on a nicked Aprillia Ped. They tried peggin it (on the scoot) from a copper with a dog straight across a field, then over a busy road. THWOK!!! 3 injured tossers and a mushed up ped.
The copper said "They nicked it, I've no sypmathy"

How cool!!!

Feel sorry for the guy who's had his ped nicked though. Bet he's gutted

Good idea in theory but problem is it has to affect an innocent other person. I am just glad the car driver didnt kill them not an easy thing to have on your mind even if it wasnt your fault. Driving themselves of the top of tall bridges - that I am in favour off (as long as they dont hit any boats or wildlife Smile )

'tis gonna effect our insurance premiums.... not just for the damage to the bike (from theft insurance, if the owned had it) but for the damage to the car from an uninsured rider.

hahaha 'police fund' gud one i can tell uve never had any dealings with the police about real crime, the ppl who usually do these things claim to be skint and under 18, so they get a slap on the wrist and let off, then u see them walking around the next day in brand new trainers and stuff.

Sorry had to get that outta ma system. I had my RS125 nicked but i got it back after i caught the little buggers (myself) be4 they cud torch it. the little wanker was let off after the police said it was 'a watse of police resources' Evil or Very Mad

If your accident has been caused by someone who has driven off, or has given false details and is not traceable, or is uninsured, you can still claim. Your claim will be dealt with by the Motor Insurers' Bureau. The M.I.B. is a body set up to provide a central fund for compensation of victims of accidents involving either uninsured or untraced drivers.
The only real differences are:

There is an 'excess' of the first £300 of compensation for any damage to property - i.e. your bike/car/clothing (e.g. if the damage to your bike and clothes costs £900 to repair/replace, you will only get £600). However, if you have your own insurance (e.g. through household or other insurance) you may be able to claim from that. You will still receive full compensation for injuries and other losses.

It will inevitably take longer to settle than if the other driver were insured, and usually means that court proceedings will have to be issued and judgement obtained. The time limits allowed to the Motor Insurers' Bureau are longer than in normal claims.

In the end, this fund is supported by ALL insurers who will inevitably put up everyone's premiums.

Hi

I thought the motor insurance bureau only covered injury claims with nothing for damages (could easily be wrong on this). However, if you have insurance that would cover you for the excess then you are fully comp so it would cover all your losses and you would not need to go anywhere near the MIB. Think MIB claims take a hell of a long time

All the best

Keith

The MIB does cover you for damages to your vehicle.... Quite a while ago someone I know was quite seriously injured and wrote their bandit12 off when somone pulled out infront of them.... they braked too hard and went over the front along with the pillion.
I forget the details... it was a while ago and he's dead now but he was uninsured and still claimed for his *own* bike against the MIB.... not sure why he couldn't claim against the other person (who was insured AFAIK), maybe because he didn't hit them.

Found out the 3 were all under 16. The guy owning the ped is apparently still crying (or some male version:)) and AFAIK one of the kids, 13, had died.

Not to sound too harsh but, oh well!!! One less future member of the scum society who I seem to be paying for more frequently as I get older.

This may be a good way to alleviate some of the uneployment. Stick the scum on scooters and let them kill themselves!!!Smile Voila! Fewer un-employed ppl! And waht pikey can resist razzing a 50cc ped???

maybe we could leave some 'unguarded' scooteers lying around... and let natural selection take it's course.

Not that I WANT anyone to die but if someone is gonna, let it be a thieving shit!!!! As far as MIB are concerned, the only reason I know about it is cos I was in a car with my mate when an uninsured arse decided to pull us along for 150M by the wing of our car!!!

MIB took 18 months to pay out but the last wiplash claim I had took that long too!!!
