My wife is taking her theory in the next month or so, and we were wondering if it's worth investing in the cd roms you see advertised. She's been driving a car for 15 years, so I would have thought that the theory shouldn't be too difficult, but maybe people know otherwise?

If you think it's worth getting one, any ideas wheres the best place to look? Ebay?

I had been driving a car for ages too but am so glad I bought the hazard perception cd. Even though I never had an accident I only just passed, even with all the practice. Experienced drivers look much further ahead than learners so scores suffer apparently. Well worth getting!!

And if that doesn't download very well then there's plenty of other copies kicking around the 'net that can be had for free.

I bought the DSA Theory Test book for the multiple choice questions, practised via their free website tests, and bought a Hazard Perception PC-DVD. Getting the clicks right is an art form (a dark one) your wife will see the hazard and respond no doubt about that, but clicking exactly when the software thinks you should is the skillful bit. Thumbs Up

Mark312: I bought the CD-ROM for my test last Summer and it did the trick : 35/35 Very Happy

I've no use for it any more, I'm quite happy to post it on if you PM me an address.

She'll probably need to practice the Hazard Perception bit too though, this CD doesn't cover it.

In all honesty, I took the the practice test online for free (dsa website), and I have to admit, when I was taking the the test I was as nervous as hell. But to be honest I found it very easy. 34/35 and 64 on hazard perception. I've been driving for 15 years too. If you do do the online practice, and "pass" then she should be fine. It's 90% common sense anyway.
Good luck!

Save your money, I have been driving for 10 years so didn't do any prep before taking my bike practical. 35/35 on the test and 65 on the hazard perception.

If you want to practice I think there are a couple of free things on the web but I wouldn't bother with anything that costs ££. I think the CD-rom's, books, etc are all aimed at 17 yr olds that have never been out on the road.

Go to WHSmiths and get their version (In a black box) £9.99 I think it is.

It has the official questions for bike test (That some WILL appear in the test) 400 out of 35 for the test. Video Hazard thing is also on there and works the same as the test centres one.

I would say 100% It's worth getting it... The official DSA ones are a waste of money though and offer no more than the other ones do.. It's just the name.

Some of the bike questions will throw you as you would do different things on a bike to what you would do in a car.

I would say get it.. Yes then sell it on Ebay Very Happy

I've been driving since '89, and only got motivated to do my bike test in 2005, but even with so much road experience I still found the DAS book and the CDROM(s) to be a valuable experience.

i did 3 online tests and thats it, passed both my bike and my car theory comfortably when it came to it, not full marks, but a pass is a pass.

think for the highway code and that there is enough free online tests but for the hazard perception it was good, just to see what they were looking for. I tried it first without listening to the instructions and wasnt doing too well but after I heard what they were looking for it was easy. I got my dvdrom the night before the test.

Thanks all you good people.

Special thanks to Kawakid who has sent me his copies, asking only a small donation to charity in return.

Another case of bikers helping each other out!

Long may it continue.

Thumbs Up Smile
