So when I get my next bike I'm going to get alot of extra security for it. At the moment I've just got a Motrax Hexagon chain.

The question is, what are the best kind of chains/disc locks/alarms and which ones do insurance companies like best?

WARNING - garage is not a valid answer

Datatool is what mines got but it fits the OEM loom.
You need someting that is Thatcham approved. (A bunch of ex-cons who turned over a new leaf and now test security systems.)
Check out the web. Under Motorcycle Alarms.
You are looking at 200-300 smackers fitted.
They must arm themself automaticaly or the ins. companies do not accept them. And have to be dealer/agent fit.
Loads out there its what suits your taste and pocket. (and who is fitting it)

i would personally like to get a tracker fitted to mine but they are very expensive. but if they scumbags manage to get past all your other chains and locks etc the police can easily track your nicked bike and recover it for you. only downside is if the thieves have wrecked your bike you will get it back but maybe not in one piece.

Anything Thatcham approved is going to go down well with insurers.

Insurers generally don't do their own tests on security they just leave all that to Thatcham.

Sold Secure is usually the standard for locks and chains, and Thatcham for alarms, but that is a generalisation.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Thatchman / Soldsecure chains are pathetic. Theirs a guy call zanx on vd who has made it his personal quest to highlight this. I think he has videos on youtube under 'mr cropper' showing him cropping chains.

Lock and chain wise almax are the only ones which have not been able to be cropt.

It's generally not worth buying security in the hope it will reduce insurance, rather buy the system that will work best for you as the cost savings on insurance are minimal compared to the cost of the kit.
