Okay. At this current point in time i'm an owner of a Suzuki RV125 Van Van. It's a good little bike, but the problem being it hasn't got a very good top speed. Me being a bulky 6'2 17stone guy, the Van Van pushes me to about 60mph tops in most cases. 70 on a downhill ride.
I know what most of you are thinking "60mph is more then enough for a learner rider as yourself" But i'm starting a new job in a couple of weeks, which involves me riding roughly 20miles single way along A roads. Which yes is a 60mph zone, problem is in the morning rush 8 out of every 10 cars/vans are doing 70mph+ on the A roads. So i'm interested in a 125cc motorbike which will easily clear 70mph (Restricted or not, either is good with me) Any suggestions would be great.

Hyosung Comet 125?

4 Stroke so reliable enough, acceleration isnt amazing and you can change the sprocket sizes to give you a bit higher top end at the loss of some acceleration

Any idea of the expected top speed with it's original sprockets?

Does the Comet rev out in top gear? I thought it didn't, so you'd probably reduce speed with upgearing.

I'd recommend some kind of 2 stroke myself (NSR for instance can be got at reasonable prices), or better yet, passing your test, of course.

4 stroke doesn't mean reliability and neither does Hyosung for that matter.

My friend has had a fair few problems with Hyosung to be fair Razz

I know I should get my A2 test underway. But I got no idea when I will get it done. So i'm keeping my options open, also trying to sell my current bike (About 2000miles on the dile) So kinda want to sell it while it's in pretty good condition and the like.

From what i've been reading about the NSR125 is looks like a good call. What are your opinions on RS125's?

The RS needs a bit more effort sticking to the maintenance schedules to keep it as reliable as the NSR.

I would choose the NSR for riding position for a daily commuter myself.

40 miles a day puts you doing about 10,000 miles a year, which is some pretty hefty mileage to be going on a 2t 125. It'll need servicing every 2 or 3 months, and probably rebuilding within a year.

If you're planning on commuting by bike for long you'll really appreciate doing your test and getting something a bit bigger. Traffic gives you a lot more respect once the 'L' plate is gone.

Qualification: I've never owned a 2t 125 but I do cover 15-20k a year, including commuting every day.

Mine does but that may be different on others.

Compared to 2T's and for the miles he's doing it would Wink

you could try a cbr125 heard they can hit 70mph. If this is true itll be a good bike. 4T so it should be reliable!

No, an NSR will reliable if well maintained and looked after, even doing that sort of work.
Infact, they tend to be pretty reliable even when not well maintained.

Similarly, a badly maintained 4 stroke is likely to go wrong eventually; and in a much more expensive way than a 2 stroke.

Dont even think of a CBR, your 6'2", the CBR is built for children and women. Rolling Eyes

I,m 6' dont weigh as much but have a lovely Cagiva Mito, scares me at 80 mph, but it 2T so wouldnt be much good for long term use. How about a Honda Varadero, big bike for a 125 and should be good for the mileage you are going to do.

been riding a nsr 125 for about 3 weeks now, and i can say it will easily do 75 mph restricted, although saying that im only 5'11 and 12 stone so i take it that you wouldnt get it quite that fast, but id be surprised if you couldnt get it to 70 with ease and it looks good which is the most important thing. Also when your pass your test you can derestrict it and then you have a totally different bike on your hands from what i hear
