I made it! unscathed.
Sunday- 482 miles to Canterbury Travelodge , where i noticed a loose engine mount bolt with no tool to tighten it ! wandered round service area asking random people if they had a big allen key . no luck till a nice RAC man fixing someones car loaned me a key to tighten it.result.
Monday- 663 miles. nip down to Dover for ferry to Calais.met Bill on a Harley on ferry advised me to avoid Paris peripherique so i went Calais-Rouen-Evreux-Chartres-Orleans-Limoges and on to Montauban where i found a Premiere Classe Hotel for the night.
Tuesday-278 miles.left Montauban passed Toulouse (filtered passed Toulouse in morning rush hour!)and on to Foix to Ax-les-Thermes to N152 Bourg Madame to Ripoll road.

Cool, looks like you managed a decent trade-off between munching the miles and fun riding on smaller twisty mountain roads Thumbs Up If you did the same again, would you take the direct ferry to Bilboa/Santander? Whilst it feels like a great achievement to ride all the way down, I'm now forming the opinion the time and petrol could be better spent once down there in Spain.

Great photos as well, has reminded me how fantastic the scenery is over there. Now I need to rethink my list of possible tours for next year Thinking

the bike is a Moto Guzzi Breva 1100,had it 18 months( over 10 000 miles) and has been faultless.this 3000 mile trip averaged about 52 mpg.90 mph is 5000 rpm.such an easy bike to ride.
i did have the bilbao ferry booked in january but was cancelled and other sailings didnt suit hotel dates and i fancied the challenge.next time will be santander/bilbao ferry or more time to cover france.
the camera is an olympus mini digital 4 mp.i'm no photographer just took it out tank bag, point, click and on my way, surprised myself how well they turned out !

Nice photos and WOW.. smooth roads that look rideable all day!

Noticed some English and Scottish flags on one/some of the photos too. Do you see a lot of bikes making the route back to Calais on the way back?

I dunno... I have to ride up to the UK this week and my initial plan was to take a ferry from bilbao/santander but its not cheap, I think the quote I got was 300 euros or thereabouts whereas the dover to calais costs more like 35 euros, france is about 700 miles lengthwise so with the hornet that should cost me under 100 euros in fuel (100ish miles to a tank, about 12-14 euros to fill up) and gives me maybe 2 days of fun riding rather than 24 hours of boring overnight ferry crossing.
I guess if you consider others expenses (food, formula une motels etc) it winds up being closer in costs... but I'd prefer to be riding, although if its as part of a bigger tour I can see why you'd want to save energy and tyres for the rest of the trip Thumbs Up
