If you want to be specific, a dirt bike is any bike that can be used off road. This includes enduros, trail bikes, field bikes, and at a push trials bikes. Some of these bikes have lights and a speedo so can be used on and off road.

Motocross bikes are built for racing and are the performance bikes of the offroad scene. Their engines are usually highly strung and need regular rebuilds. They have no lights, speedo, battery ect and are built to be as powerful and light as possible. These bikes are made purely for offroad use and although with a bit of money and effort can be made road legal, they aren't very nice to ride on the road.

A motocross bike with road spec wheels, tyres, brakes and suspension. They are traditionally 250+ fourstroke singles or twins.

Basically it's a motocross bike with on road tyres , they also have crash bobins ,hand guards ect. They race them in events were the track is both on road and off road.

THIS IS A REAL COMPETITION SUPER MOTO BIKE

Traditionally made from competition off road bikes, 2 or 4 stroke singles.
Only one 'real' supermoto is a twin and that's the aprilia - even that's very heavy by most supermoto standards.

hurricanehollis:
Many wouldn't describe a SX50 (presuming that's your bike) as a 'true' supermoto, due to it's sever lack of pwoer.

A lot of bikes are described as supermotos now, including ones that have not much more power than a derestricted 125, but with weight nearing a VFR800. I'd suggest more of a 'lardy-moto' Smile.

Errrr Jamie, supermoto and supermotard mean exactly the same thing.

EDIT-

Seems this post was "boring" according to the stokester, boy I really shouldn't have rated that post where he just repeated what everyone else had said as redundant. He's also rated a couple of my other posts as overrated. Laughing

The Way i see it a dirt bike is everything from a factory ktm dakar racer to a trial bike like a TTR-250 or even a DTR125, Motorcross bikes are competition bike for racing around motorcross circuits so lots of jumps and that kinda stuff. The other mail type of offroad bike that still looks like a "bike" is enduro the best way i can describe this is kinda like rally on bike but often far tougher and weaving in and out of trees etc. To see examples of all this have a look on youtube lots of videos on there of it.

Dirt 'bike is a generic term for all off road 'bikes: Enduro, Motocross (AKA MX), trials, trail etc.

MX 'bikes are not road legal; enduro 'bikes often are road legal (there are special allowances made by the DVLA to allow them to be road registered) for rallies etc.

Supermotos were first "invented" by the French, hence the French name. A supermotard rides a supermoto (if you say you ride a supermotard - you'll get some strange looks; especially in France!)

If you buy an enduro 'bike then you can always buy a set of supermoto wheels and use it on the road in the summer, and in the mud through the winter - two 'bikes for the price of one.

Big ham ,it was because your reply wasn't even there when I clicked to reply, see the time posted ? It took my that time to find a link to one and then type out what I wanted to say, then add the pics and then link the url.

So there was NO need to down rate it in the first place.
