Right.. it started off with the CG not holding idle, just cutting out at every throttleless opportunity. And it only used to start whilst I held the throttle half/full open. Then it wouldnt start at all. Then finally today I got chance, so I took the carb apart, cleaned main and pilot jets... in the process I didnt read the manual properlu (deerrr) so I buggered about with the throttle stop screw, but I think I screwed it back in where it was (well I dont think I have). Then I was pissing about with the needle jet, and it came apart in my hands as I forced the needle the other way just because I was curious, I did put that back together how it was though. Now Ive put everything back together, but the throttle is not as springy as it was, and I still have the same problem the bike doesnt start... spark plug is brand new... anybody got any ideas? (its a 1989 model))

First off, did you put the throttle slide back in the right way round (cutaway to the rear) and did it seat all the way to the bottom?

Did the circlip come off the needle? Did you put it back in the same place? Did you force the throttle needle at any time? They are easily bent.

When you open the throttle then release it, can you hear the slide 'clunk' as it hits the idle-screw stop.

Did you give any consideration to either asking for advice or reading a manual on the subject before you undertook to do this impromptu and probably unecessary carb strip? (don't answer that, it's a rhetorical question).

Rolling Eyes By the sound of it this is your first carb strip, you should have got some one who KNEW what they were doing to watch and help you out as needed, get some one who KNOWS what they are doing to strip it down and then put every thing back in there right places, and watch what they do verry carefully for next time it is needed to be done.
Thumbs Up
