Ok i have a feeling i'm going to get slated for this, but got to start making money.

Basically there is a dominos pizza and herbies pizza in town and i'm thinking of applying as a delivery boy, on the peds. Has anyone here ever been one? if yes or no i've got a few questions if anyone would be so kind to answer Smile

Arrow Does every franchise have mopeds?
Arrow Do you have to use your own bike?
Arrow Whats it actually like? Money-wise and just generally
Arrow Is it possible to be one if you only have a provisional license+CBT?

I know i could ring up and ask but i thought i'd ask here first as we were all young once and a good bunch of guys on here Thumbs Up

Thanks in advance,
Jack

P.S. any other things you think i should know, just say.

I used to ride a ped for pizza hut, so feel I'm fairly qualified to answer a couple of questions

1) It's up to the discretion of the person running it, generally, although be aware that not all of them are franchises (just a heads up about the companies)
For example the pizza hut delivery branch I was working for was company run, with the people running it being "managers". So while they did day to day running they had no say in anything important. The real way to find out is do some recon! have a look around, are there peds delivering? In sheffield at least there's dominoes and pizza hut both with peds, and a couple of smaller ones. Down here in Tunny Wells about every pizza shop has a ped or two.

2)Never heard of this. Would be highly impractical - you'd have to fit a box, insurance issues, etc. etc. etc.

I'll answer your last question next:
4) Pizza hut expect a CBT and will send L platers out on what they call "CBT 2" - Bear in mind this has no legal standing and only exists in pizza huts own little world, but they should pay for it, depending on the shop they might dock it from your wages. As a full license holder I didn't have to do it

right...what's it like...

It is entirely dependant on your local area. the uniform / ped can act like a "please mug me" sign. I got physically attacked 3 times in 5 months. Luckily I'm a big lad and didn't get too hurt but expect a bit of shit.
IMO working for places like that is up and down. Warm nights are lovely, though it can all get a bit repetitive. If you don't have one, get an MP3 player, wear it whilst riding - makes the shifts go quicker.
Rate of pay is pretty rubbish, nobody respects you, but if you're a leave-your-job-at-work kind of person it's fine.
peds are almost always knackered. In the shop I was working there were 6 peds - at any one time only 3 of them worked. They get abused, dropped and crashed at an alarming rate and they are badly maintained.
The gear they provide you with tends to be rubbish. Try to convince them that your gear offers better protection etc. - it is dependant on the manager as to whether they let you wear it.

All in all not a terrible job, and can be a laugh. but if it delivers to shitty areas, be careful.

just to amend that, considering what has just been said. Tips are always gonna be rubbish. Good nights (rare) I got £10 tips, generally it was enough for a pack of baccy.

Depends on area, again.

Being 16 you're less likely to get the job, the big chains prefer to employ slightly older people.

Thanks alot carlmalibu, the thing about the areas is something i hadn't thought of.

I'm in an ok area but there are 1 or 2 parts that are really rough. I'll have to ring up tommorow and ask if either have any peds and what stands with license and things.

Big help Thumbs Up

Thanks,
Jack

don't ring - go and enquire in person - it will always leave a more lasting impression on the managerial staff
Plus in pizza hut etc. they'll just say over the phone "come and pick up an application form", so by going in you'll save yourself time.

Im currently a dispatch rider myself, we do delivery food but only in the city (London) to people stuck in the office, so only dangers are cab drivers Evil or Very Mad

pay is actually f**king good, and sometimes a days tips are more than your days wage!

local pizza hut etc, is pretty dangerous, I wouldnt recommend it, but if you think your area is alright, give it a try.

Unless you're a big lad I wouldn't recommend it, they tend to get terrorized where I live.

I have worked for pizza hut, i wouldent reccommend it, the uniform they try and enforce is a massive target for everyone that wants to misplace some anger, thats alota fuckin "people".

For me it wasent enough pay to justify the shit that comes with it...

More importantly

Ask them about the age factor.

You will find the Companies insurer might not cover you unless your 18.

I would have thought that Friday and Saturday nights were the main nights for the pizza trade. How do you go out wiyhout the money to do it. My first job was pushing trollies at the local Asda, Thursday Friday and Saturdays evenings, You started off with the crap shifts and worked your way to the better ones.
