OK, I've done one of these before, but I'm drawing a blank now.

I'm going to be shopping again in October, and I need my new bike to meet these criteria:

Comfortable
Good for pillions
Reliable
Low-ish running costs (less than a Thunderace)
NOT a Thundercat
Preferably full fairing
So basically a reliable sports tourer. I'd also like it to be a bit aesthetically pleasing, which is why I'm not that keen on a VFR750, for example. A bit interested by a Ducati ST4, but I don't know how that would fare in the 'reliable' bit. Wink Also like the look of the Aprilia Futura, but again on the reliability, plus I'm not sure about insurance costs.

Does a bike that meets all those criteria exist?!

Well I'm looking at a VFR800i Non VTEC as my next bike, it's a matter of opinion but I think they're beautiful bikes.

Solo seat, single swinger, modelled from the NR.

I would say a Fazer - of course I'm biased as I own one.
They're not great on fuel consumption though - the old style ones like mine do 35mpg and the FZ6 does 41mpg. Reserve light generally comes on after about 130 miles...and it's an 18 litre tank. It really hurts my wallet, but then I do spend hours and hours just riding aimlessly. I paid £30 for petrol in the first few days I had it, and since then it was at the dealers' being serviced until tonight - when I did 70 miles. Very Happy
Runs like an absolute dream since the service though. It feels almost perfect to ride. No doubt this weekend will be even more expensive.

To be honest I want to move away from Yamaha. Not that I have anything against them, I've had 2 Thundercats and loved them both, I just want to dip my beak.

I do like the idea of a VFR800 Tobe, but I don't know if I could forgive myself. Wink
