Postcode lottery

I just moved flat in London from Mill Hill (NW7) to Wembley (HA9). Thought I should let the nice insurance people know, but I thought the areas were as nice as each other so there would be no problems with my rate going up.
So the woman told me on the phone (sounding a bit embaressd) that the premium was going to go from £600 TPFT to over £1000!!! I about shat myself!! The area code went from level 4 to 5 - the nicer the area the higher the preimium! How bad is that? Eventually I had to cancel my Norwich Union policy, lose three months NCB, pay admin costs, transfer to Zenith and use a finance company to spread the extra costs. So now my policy is £712, not including money I've lost including admin charges etc!
For a laugh I got her to put my old Scotland postcode in and it was level1, the cheapest to be!

I feel screwed.
