i was riding home from work earlier when i saw a complete idiot on a R6 wobbling all over the place and generally not doing too well on the riding front.I decided to follow him for a bit to make sure he was ok.

He stopped at a spar shop a little way down the road and jumped off the bike.I pulled over and asked if he was ok.He told me to "fu*k off you weekend warrior"

I couldnt believe it.Now i know (and i will get frowned upon for this im sure) that i dont ride in leathers.I never have done since i was nearly paralysed from back armour when i was 18 but i can assure you all i have owned and rode bikes over 1000cc for the past 11 years in all weathers.

After i had calmed him down a little it turned out this was his maiden voyage and i could tell all his gear was new and looked lovely but it just goes to show a lesson there (i think Rolling Eyes ) that not all riders who appear to know what they are doing by the way they are dressed do.

People like that, that give us bad reputation. Must have been embarrassing for him though.

3 of us stopped at the side of a road today for a rest and a bloke in a transit passed us, 5 mins later he was back and asked if we was having trouble and needed a hand. Top bloke Thumbs Up

What an arse hole. Did he explain his reason for telling you to "fuck off" or for calling you a weekend warrior? Confused

I would have gave him a round a f**Ks back and left him to it. There was no need for his attitude towards you. Shocked

He didnt answer but i can only assume it was because i was riding my FJ and didnt have leathers on.Perhaps he assumed i was only using it as an amateur myself??

I can ride with the best of them,i am never and will never be as good as devotees to sports bikes and the such (track days etc) but i ride in all weathers and throughout the year so i would say i have good experience.

It just annoys me when people think like that.I went to a pub called the fox last night to have a drink with a mate and to try and meet some bcf folk (no one turned up btw) and again got frowned upon by middle aged men with brand spanking new mint R1's and CBR 900 fireblades.
There is certainly an atmosphere between people who ride with leathers and people who dont.

I have fished in the same league as bob nudd (world class fisherman) and came pretty close but i didnt have all the expensive sponsorship gear like him but no one doubted my ability then... Confused

I doubt people are doubting your ability, more likely to be doubting your intelligence. I never commute in leathers, only 4 miles and I've still nearly landed up in a whole world of pain more than once!

Fishing is about having all the expensive gear to look good, biking gear is for your own safety, not to look the part. Rolling Eyes

Sorry to carp on, but you can have as much fun fishing with bamboo, 2lb line and a size 16 hook as you can will gear for the well 'eeled....

Same with bikes - just because one chooses not to wear full leathers doesn't make one a tw*t... a little more exposed perhaps... I'm suprised you didn't push his bike over!

Yes and it's not a valid reason, my one piece suit doesn't have a back protector but I still wear it because I'm quite fond of my skin.

Oh and poor attempt at an insult, about as offensive as you an excellent rider with good observation and braking skills...

That's what happens when you ride on ice, you fall off, although some people don't need assistance with putting themselves on their arse, as you have demonstrated on many occasions.

As for the school yard-esque insults, I won't even bother responding to them, you're doing nothing but make yourself look bad, although not as bad as you looked after hitting someones bike then blaming them for it.

The fox in finchingfield Thumbs Up nice friendly pub with some good looking bar staff Wink

Shaun i wear what i feel comfortable in.You have your reasons to stay safe and i have mine.

If you fall off on your arse/back and crack your lower vertibrae and do some nerve damage on a piece of back armour then perhaps you would feel different.I have read countless posts and it does seem i am not the only one to forego them now.As for skin, yes i understand your point but i would point out that i was wearing leathers in my accident and they promptly got ripped clean off the vital parts anyway and left me with skin grafts and metal mesh in my elbow.

I get frowned apon while fishing because I wear army combat clothes, my tackle box is a tool chest, and I make my own baits... I don't let it bother me as I know when I see a guy walk round the lake with an un-used brand name tackle box and overpriced rod that I have probably handled a million times more fish than he has...

And for the records... I wear leathers and I am a part time 125cc rider... I have respect for mosr riders (except scooter riders Razz ) despite what material jacket they have!
