My biggest worry since I got my licence and the bike last September was 'will I really be able to stop in a life and death situation'.

Tonight when returning from the Red Lion in Avebury the Hippy and one of our friends crossed over a rounderbout and had a disagreement with someone who tried to go into the side of them. He stopped I started over the rounderbout at a 'reasonable speed' and with inches to spare he just lept out in front of me. The back end wibbled but I stopped just CM's before I ploughed into the side of him as he suddenly noticed me and breaked.

People are always doing something stupid but that was my first real no way out close call (yes I know there will be more!)

I now know that brembo brakes are really good and indeed I can stop - I was indeed in shock but hey I know I can do it now - no fear!!!

Some woman decided to park her horse van in the middle of a freeway, I was following a Vectra (with a big gap) and he and I obviously boith thought the van had just slowed...... so Vectra did mad swerve round van and bint in van opened the bloody door!!! So Vectra screeches to halt....me brakes....wiggley wiggley back and...LUCKILY I squeeze up gap down side of Vectra,

Car coming opposite way has to emergancy stop too!! SCARY STUFF!!! Grrrr some people, she must be one of the inbred farmers from nearby Sad

/me Hugs MrsHippy & Anna

Well done MrsH... just remember that you can't stop *quite* as quick in the wet or with cold tyres (as my flate mate found out Confused)

And, yea, I reckon stoppies *should* be in the cbt... the best breaking will be achieved just before the back wheel lifts... but you're never going ot find the point until you can actually lift the back wheel. And being able to keep the back wheel up at a specific height means that yuo should be smoother on the brakes.... honest officer, I was just trying to pactice being safe Smile

Well I have decided on my first mod to the bike - I am getting a horn that will shake the ground - my horn is in no way impressive and did not impart to the driver just how upset I was. Mind you me yelling at broken voice screeming pitch YOU SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTT! might have worked as his window was open Laughing

I am glad to hear you escaped anna - did you get the shakey legs and problems wiht the gears all the way home?!!!!

MrsH, only someone like me would have stacked it in the wet... you would have been riding differently if it was raining...

Friend had a set on an MBX125 years ago. He fitted it where the airbox was meant to live (had an S&B single filter on the bike)

All the best
