LIFT!!!!!!!!!!!!! no lift on mine matey, LIFTS are for people who don't have a clue. The lowest part is the diff casings, its that which causes most of them to stop dead in their tracks, a lift won't pick the diff casing off the ground.

A lift will also make it more unstable. More suspension travel is the order of the day my 'YANKY' mucka, if the wheels are on the ground then the roof is pointing upward.

Is that you done with biking then Johnny?

Really liked your bike, but my own 'busa fund' fell short of your asking price (by a few grand) and took a major hit (from which it may never recover) when I got burgled a week and a half ago - I paid for every downstairs window taking out and reinforcing and that left me well short of what I needed for a busa Sad

So sticking with the Thunderace for a while longer yet. Maybe a blessing - learn to properly handle that bikes power before I make what would definitely be a step up... Only been riding a year (or will have been, next month) so maybe a busa would have been 'too much too soon' - but I'm a firm believer that my brain and my right hand would have acted as limiters till used to it.

Ah well, one day!

Enjoy the new hobby!

Thats simply mental. I have the DVD about rock crawling, an absolute art form.
Mine will be simple, functional, minimal and legal ish.
It will be V8 auto, with a nice custom built stainless system running on an altered Range Rover chassis.
I'll be a sad twat and post pics of the Range Rover strip down as i do it and show it being reincarnated.

I'm happy now!

Whats your donor vehicle, a 3-door? They are in short supply but trust me... a 3 door chassis would be better off-road than a 5 door, as I hope you already know! Are you going to cut it down at all?

My dream is to build a hybrid off-roader on an 88" chassis, probably from a series 3, as they are more available than a series 2...

The 5 dr chassis is tha same as the 3 dr.... its only the body shell which is different. I'm using a 5 dr shell cut down to 88" wb with no rear bodywork, a simple tray back and a snub nose front. It will have a full external cage for the inevitable roll.

I would go for manual if you can.I tried off roading with a shogun auto and it was rubbish as you couldnt get the revs up.I settled for the first shogun (88' E) in the end and built if up again from scratch.

Exactly as you say,it's the diff height that makes all the difference Thumbs Up

shit pic as taken on a n80 Embarassed

Plenty of SII's about, the SIII was a rot box. My bro has a SI with a canvas tilt and a SIIA truck cab.
I have 2 R/Rovers and a Discovery, have had a R/Rover before,a SIIA Station Wagon and a 110 pre production. I find the Land Rover Series and defender to small inside.

APness you can buy early-model 'busas for under 3 grand nowadays. Seen a tatty model go for £2600 last year. You would be very hard-pressed to find one with a bad engine.

I've been using AUTO since last year and i find its better than manual as your not breaking traction to change up... Why would you want to get the revs up on soft ground anyway???????

So many people rev the nuts off them off road, its asking to get stuck. Keep the revs down and you'll go much further.
I'm not a novice at this, i've been at it since i was a teenager, just had a break for a few years and now i'm back into it.

I never implied that you were a novice Embarassed

I tend to stick to byways and specified off road pits.I dont do heavy revs but i did find with the shogun auto it just didnt have the grunt up the steep parts.

So you actually got places in the Shogun in the pic Confused A/T tyres, runner boards, bull bar......... Rolling Eyes ..

Whats with all the chequer plate?? It seems to be En Vogue for 4x4 folk to adorn the vehicle with naff chunks of diamond plate, i don't get it.
The other dumb ass thing is 'ONE LIFE LIVE IT'.... so many 4x4's with that written on.

The RR V8 auto in low range has enough guts to tip itself over backwards LOL.
No need to worry about what gear to choose, its always in the right one plus the wheels don't lock on decents when its slippy.

I was always a MANUAL box fan until i started to use this. My mate has a 100" Hybrid comp safari motor with a 4.6 V8 running a Jag 3 speed auto.

My mate and his son are having loadsa fun with their road-legal Vitaras. The run them on a very low budget. One of them has a Cal-Mini kit or something on it.

As i said steep hills at specified pits and byways.Probably not the same league as you. That was a very early pic when it was just starting out.The front was replaced with a winch bumper and winch, the side steps were replaced with rock sliders and off road tyres but not the really meaty ones - just good enough for what i needed.

The chequer plate was to provide somewhere to stand when the safari rack was put on

I'm lifting my disco 2" to get bigger wheels and tyres on for clearance when it articulates which means the diffs will be higher than standard.

Is lift not ther to increase ramp break over angle. Had a RRC witha 2" lift and uprated shocks and springs and have to say it was very stable...well on road anyway, was a short lived relationship and had to sell it before I was able to venture off road Sad

Am I in the right place? Surely this should be 2x2?

Hey at least your planning to keep it where all 4x4's belong, at the bottom of a disused gravel pit Wink Have fun.
