Ok, so it's all brought about by my own incompetence and inability to deal with paperwork in a timely fashion, but I'm totally sick about this one and not sure how to fix it. When I passed my bike test (DAS - November 2005) I had a paper license so had to apply for a photocard version at the same time as adding my bike entitlement. At the time I was more interested in going out to play on my bike than filling out the forms so they sat in a drawer for a while.

My insurance company were fine with a photocopy of the test pass certificate and paper license, so no rush to get it sent off. After all, I have until November 2007 to do it, and I never seemed to get around to having the photos taken that I needed.

So this weekend I'm gutting my house for redecorating and bring all my paperwork together and organise it...except I can't for the life of me find my passport, drivers license, test pass certificate, or even theory test pass certificate.

Yes, lazy bloody idiot, I know...but what the hell do I do ? Even if I have to resit my test, would I need another CBT certificate (old one had expired...I found that Rolling Eyes ) and re-do my theory as well ??

Can you not get hold of the place our sat your test and find out if they keep records?

When I was doing my DAS, the guy I was on the course with done something similar. Forgot to send his pass certs away and effectivly had no bike licence. He had to re-do everything all over again as he'd booked a trip to America to tour across it on a hired bike.

No wanting to panic you but you'd better find those papers ASAP! Was it Harleys Rider Training you done it with?

if you really can't find them after ripping the house apart, then go to the test centre where you passed your test, they keep records of your pass but not sure for how long so they might not still have them, but worth trying sooner rather than later.

Ohhh....I'm liking this idea Kwaker. Tell them I sent them my license & test pass certificate and make it their fault (or Royal Mail's fault) Very Happy At least that might make them a little more sympathetic about the missing docs.

I think you'll find that its not going to help no matter who you pass the blame to. There were some posts on here where people had their bike entitlement taken off their licence by the DVLA. It was up to the licence holder to prove they had the entitlement in the first place.

Then again with my memory it was probably all a dream and I've just made it up. Wink

Sending off my pass slip was my first priority. In fact, I think I posted it the same day. I was more bothered about getting a pink license with 'Category A' on it than anything else, just in case I lost the pass.

Nah, you didn't dream it. I think it was when folk moved address and the DVLA gave them back the new licence minus bike entitlements and HGV ones also. I've still to change my address but it will be getting scanned before I send it off.

Yep, I was one of them. Passed test in 1990, had a few changes of address and licence type, then somewhere along the line they forgot to transpose my motorcycle entitlement. As I didnt notice for 5 years (moved back here in 2000 from the Isle of Man then didnt have a bike till 2006) the DVLA just werent interested, even though it was totally their fault. They just said if I didnt have a copy of the pass certificate there was nothing they could do.

Ended up having to do CBT, Theory and DAS, costing me the best part of £500 all in.

inform dvla that you have lost your licence, you pay and they send you a replacement, now you are fine if you still have all your entitlements on it, however if you find theyve missed some off, you then let them know this before finding your original again, or you get a scanned copy of your licence signed by the local plod and dated as proof if needed, ive known a HGV class 1 driver employed for 15 years have his entitlement go missing and even copies of the regularly checked details sent by his employers didnt help him, he had to sit the licence again but is trying to sue the dvla for loss of earnings and the cost of a retest, in my opinion insurance companies should have proof of licence in their records but for some reason they dont

You really need to find that test pass certificate as that is the really important bit. Even if you have to try to get a copy of it from the test centre at which you passed, you need to try to get one and as soon as possible as it could take a while to sort it all out. You have only got until November to get the entitlement added or else your test pass will become 'void'.

You do realise that technically the test pass doesn't mean you are entitled to ride a motorcycle legally don't you? Once you have your pass certificate you are supposed to 'apply' for a full driving licence - in simple terms you fill the form in and send it off, and only once the DVLA have received and processed your test pass are you 'legally' able to drive/ride that class of vehicle. Now this is only a technicality but you need to get on to sorting out properly now.
