 |
|
I'm helping (!) my mate sort out her recently acquired Gullarm, and having took it for an MOT it's failed on 1) Leaking shock and 2) Insufficient dampening. So I'm assuming shock = fucked?
I've had a scour on t'internet and have concluded that the solution is either:
New Hagon shock - 250 quid
Used eBay breakers shock - 50 quid ish
Fitting CBR6 shock?
Possibly reconditioning the old shock?
She can afford the Hagon, but me being naturally a tight git am trying to save her unneccesary expenditure. So my questions...
Is the Hagon really worth the leap in costs?
Are used shocks likely to be as dodgy as the old one? How can you tell?
I've heard about lots of people fitting CBR6 shocks - is it a straight swap? What improvement (if any) does it make?
Is it possible to replace the leaking seal(s) on the old shock and adjust is enough to a) pass and b) be safe for a good while?
And finally (most important), how easy is it to remove/fit? I have paddock stands and a reasonable selection of tools.
Whatever I do, it needs to be done before a week on Friday so she can ride it to the Farmyard.
Any help gratefully received, cookies aplenty

Oh and I've posted here rather than 400GB cause I find the forum layout there a bit of a mare! ____________________ CBR125|||GSXR400|||CBR400|||CBR400|||CB250RS|||GSXR750|||CB250RS

I fitted the CBR6 shock to my NC23 - which was in alot better condition than what came out with also the advantage of adjustable rebound and preload adjustments that the original shock didnt have. For me at least it was just a case of shortening the lower linkage as the shock was around the same size and the linkage that came attatched from said CBR6 was the correct size.
- Take a gander at the project thread if your interested ____________________ Will work for petrol

Tried adjusting the shock at lunchtime but it still bounces like a topless page 3 model on a trampoline.
I've now bought a 40 quid used one off eBay, we shall see! Cheers for the help Liking your project thread Aikman, hadn't looked at it for a while
