Has anyone here had problems with the tomtom rider cradle bracket thingy.
(Sorry but Im a girlie and don’t know the techie terms for thingies)
I will try to be brief.
The problem is our tomtom rider came adrift whilst out for a ride & a following car proceeded to run over it.
Having contacted the company they agreed the bracket is a problem and replaced it in full but it now comes with a harness, a textile type strap with a dog clip.
IMHO I think this strap thing could turn the bike into a death trap. If the tom tom comes off the bracket again there is the possibility it could scratch the paintwork on the tank
Indeed a disaster in itself, but more worryingly it could just fall between the handlebars and the tank jamming up the steering, now without the strap on, it would fall to the floor ok so this isn’t good…..but with the strap on it stays dangling down this is not a good place for it to be. I have rang them regarding my concerns, and asked them what they intend doing about it, their response is, and I quote; … In view of recent circumstances we do understand and appreciate your concerns with the replacement Rider v1 device you've received from TomTom recently, however we would like to assure you that this product had been fully tested before it was released onto the market a couple of years ago and is suitable for bike navigation..
So I rang them again and spoke to a guy named Rick, he seemed to think that we were positioning the tomtom in the wrong place on the bike. Well to be fair there is not many places you can get the damned thing on
now!!!!!!!!!!
I admit I was rather sarcastic & did say I felt whoever had come up with this strap solution probably did so with a pair of handlebars on the desk & asked had this strap been tested. He responded with a curt “I have one and I don’t see what your problem is” curious I asked him what bike he had, his response “well it’s a scooter but it’s a very fast one” I did point out to him (very nicely I have to add because at the end of the day a rider of two wheels is a rider) that the tank positioning on the scooter is somewhat different to the tank on a suzie sv
at that I was cut off with just a long continuous purr down my ear.
I want to get other peoples views on this strap they have come up with & can you see a problem with it??????????
Well seems my fears are founded. I have asked this question a few weeks ago and someone gave me a link and it seems it has already happened just as I had feared it could. Clearly it is only a problem if your doing a slow turn. But if another vehicle is passing at that moment, your pretty much stuffed
I cant believe a company would come up with such a thing, It aint rocket science you only have to look at the bike offer the damned thing up to see what is going to happen.

Please if anybody here has one of these straps or knows someone with one for gods sake or rather your own sake don’t use it. If you feel you must use it, check where the unit is going to end up should mounting thing break.
The person who has dropped their bike due to the above hapenning, well you can find out on this link https://www.motorcycleforum.com/showthread.php?p=437668

Thanks for the info. 9 out of 10 people i know (yes that many) have had an allround bad experience with tomtom in one way or another, from crap faulty hardware to poor customer service. Garmin is THE way forward. Mr. Green

Nb perhaps you can get them to respond here and I will give them at tomtom a link to this thread. Seems they dont think there is a problem!!!!!

Any one with a strap thing can you just check it out and see where your tomtom will end up if the mount thing does break.
and post your findings here please Wink

I have the TTR v1 with the strap; haven't had any issues with the bracket at all and have it mounted on the fork yoke on my VFR via a RAM mount, although I too have heard horror stories. You can shorten the strap to stop it flapping at speed - and it does come off it wont go down into the fork?
