Well you should already have a jacket and gloves and helmet, all of these should be water proof. If you get boots they should be water proof as well.
If it rains heavily I wear water proof trousers, if its only light I just wear my jeans.
Rain is easy enough to ride in, all you have to do is ride a bit slower and be prepared more for longer stopping distances, also it is wise to take back your pace a bit in the wet, as you won't have the same grip as in the dry, but good grip still.
As long as your tyres are good and you are sensible you'll be fine, I've ridden in rain loads no problems, as have pretty much everyone here I assume.
Now snow thats an interesting one ____________________ Past: 55 Sym Jet, 91 ZZR250, 03 NSR125R. Present: 97 ER-5.

i dont mind riding in the rain, just wrap yourself up and you'll generally be dryer (once your in work/college and taken the waterproofs off) than the peeps who have to wait in the rain for a bus. get yourself some cheapo bike luggage off ebay and you'll be sorted if you wanna carry stuff. ____________________ I kills hondas

I did proper rain (as opposed to dribble) for the first time today and it was certainly an experience. Got caught out without waterproofs and got home feeling a bit damp
The sound of the rain is quite relaxing but once you go over a drain it soon wakes you up!!
Enjoy and take it easy xx ____________________ https://www.sxc-chan2b.piczo.com/ |

Chantelle, did you come off or slip near it? sounds like you almost came off
Tasha, best thing for wet roundabouts, is to get in a high gear, and go slow as you'll stay pretty upright, and the bike shouldn't slide out from under you ____________________ Roger wrote: Women don't get damp for clingy puppies. Im still not 100% riding in the rain and try to avoid it if poss - But if I have work I gotta go.
Target fixation is just crap - I seem to look out for slip lines/drains and end up going over and not around them
Or cornering is just pants!
Wet gear I got £70 HG textiles and done me proud when its pouring. Also a neck warmer - cant go without mine. |

No didnt come off, just slipped on a few drain covers.
Dunno what is worse, the feeling of knowing your about to slip or the adrenaline after while your heart regains it composure.
Gotta learn somehow i suppose ____________________ https://www.sxc-chan2b.piczo.com/ |

Well I arrived at Brighton good and well. Took 2 hours tho.
Hit a massive puddle at chichester - I didnt see as it was just after the r/about turn - Both my feet were underwater Went to turn round at the arundel end - all roads flooded, so had to keep going.
Drains are a nightmare on roundabouts |

now you guys got me scared . I want to try and push my limits in the rain, so I can handle daily driving better. Would this be a bad idea? when winter comes Im going to gradually step my pace up and hopefully be close to a 100% comfortable in the rain. Or should I just take it slow all the time in the rain? Oh by the way I just picked up my new bike (Yammy R6) two days ago and holy shit is this thing a rocket, I drove my bike about 50 miles back home after picking it up from the dealership and that was my first time on the freeway, I was scared shitles but about 20 miles down the freeway, I was bored of sitting in traffic so I gunned it (about,85mph). Anyways sorry about rambling on im just really excited that I FINALLY got my bike. Im sure that when the rain comes ill be ready for it, hopefully. |

I rode my 125 for the first time in torrential rain & hail, at night. Anything since is a piece of cake
Got soaked yesterday riding 80 miles home, had to focus more but it's not that bad. I do the 'two thirds there' 'halfway there' etc thing to keep me motivated. Being cold, losing concentration and getting numb fingers. is the worst.
Louise - you're better off riding straight over the drain cover etc, rather than swerving away if it could be just as you're on them. If you see them late, just ease off the throttle and ride as straight as poss over them.
Polarman - either periodically wipe with left hand, or if at decent speed a superquick head turn to the side sorts the droplets out. If in a 30 zone I tend to keep my visor at least 2 thirds up and put up with the rain on my face.
