If someone already has insurance on it, then you need to get covered under thier insurance, or you need to add it to your insurance/any vehicle insurance.

JFC, £700 for a ped? Have you shopped around much? If not, you need to. That is a fekking disgrace.
Try the bike insurer, through the Auto trader website. You might get a cheaper quote there.

Yes you can get insurance on someone else's bike. It doesn't have to be on your own policy.

Some insurers may request it's registered in your name, but not all.

There is no problem having two sets of insurance for one vehicle; though ideally they shouldn't 'conflict' - ie you shouldn't be in a situation you can claim on either.

Though you may be left in the situation where both insurers then argue about who's liable for the insurance and as in the case of the claims company I worked for, refusing to pay out, as documented in the policy booklet, which both have.

Basically, the 'problem' lies when you're not claiming, but a TP is.
