Before I do my CBT I should probably buy a jacket and gloves, (already got a lid) but searching ebay I dont really know what Im looking at.

How can you tell the difference between the cheap rubbish and the real bargains, budget is important but I dont want to go cheap and end up with something useless.

Does anyone have any particular reccomendations or ebay shops or items to look for?

Go into a shop try on what fits the best for the money that you can afford then try and find it online or on eBay.

I bought all my stuff from Hein Gericke. They're great at what they do and, uniquely, they don't just try and get you to spend money. They actually convinced me to buy cheaper stuff than what I was looking at.

Yeah, can recommend HG for beginners its alright quality for the money you can get kitted out reasonably cheap. The one in manchester is actually about 10 mins walk passed the MEN Arena and the old Boddingtons Factory towards Prestwich.

Cordura, or textile jackets are usually cheaper than leather. Just make sure you buy a jacket that has a bit room to move in, and make sure it has CE approved armour, in the elbows, shoulders at least. Even better if you can get some sort of back protection too.
and try and get gloves with carbon fibre knuckle protectors. Personally, i think leather gloves are best, but there are some good textile ones around too, and possibly cheaper.

I didn't realise you could get textile gloves. Smile

I have leather gloves from HG...apparently they've been rebranded the "HGR Racing Glove" and have "RACING" written on them up the wrist. Tacky.
Interestingly, they seem to be waterproof. Even when it's absolutely pissing it down, none of the water gets into the glove. Hands get cold though...
I have mixed feelings on them - they've got good wrist protection, very sturdy and good knuckle protection but after wearing them for a couple of hours they leave indents on my hands, particularly on my right hand between my thumb and other fingers, running down to the wrist.

I only wish my local HG was the same, they want as much of your money as they can get!

That's unfortunate...
I'm in sales so I understand the focus on closing the deal, but my local HG have won my loyalty with the best customer service I've ever seen. There's definitely business sense in becoming a trusted advisor rather than a product peddler trying to pressure people into buying - I don't go anywhere else.

When you buy a jacket make sure it has CE approved armour and either a built in back protector or make sure there's enough room
to fit one under it.If possible try a few shops and find out what fits best then look on the web or Ebay for the best price.

There's some good stuff on Ebay and some total rubbish Beware of anything coming from Thailand,China etc or anything that looks too
good to be true like a £250 jacket for £30 new! Search for AGV, Richa,Shoei,Spidi,Spada,Furygan,IXS,Frank Thomas which are all pretty good brands they're just not as well known as Dainese or Alpinestars so don't carry the high price tag.

These are some of the Ebay shops i've bought stuff from but there's loads more.

https://stores.ebay.co.uk/JSGEDGE-Motorcycle-Parts_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZQ2d33QQftidZ2QQtZkm

J&S accessories usually have good deals on previous seasons gear their website is.

I would also recommend Hein Gericke leathers they're really good for the price my last set survived 4 years as a courier and the only thing that went wrong was a broken zip. Pretty good considering most stuff i owned lasted less than a year.

Hope this helps Thumbs Up
