Well my insurance is up soon, and within the 12 months i had it, i gained 3 lovely points for speeding (sp30)
Im just wondering what sort of difference this makes to my premiums, ive heard it does, and ive heard it doesnt.

many thanks, steve.

That all depends on wether you go searching for a new policy and declare it.

I know a couple of people that have 6 points and just let there policy renew without speaking to anyone etc

I was always told (dont know how true it is though) that most places let you off one speeding conviction. I got a summons and received 6 points all in one go for speeding a few years ago, and i don't think it made much difference. Although it was six points and a big fine, it was still only 1x SP30 on the license. Im sure my quote the following year was about £50 cheaper.

It was in 2002 though so it may well have changed.

Usually Around £60

But the best thing to do is, do a quote online, then go in and amend it and see what the difference is for yourself.

Your gonna shop around once you get your renewal note anyway

Ye, becuase it doesn't matter what you tell your insurance company as long as you leave them alone.

When it comes to a claim, thats when they will do the back ground checks and try not pay out for you.

It was on the news recently that a number of insurance companies are no longer taking notice of a speeding conviction since some ridiculous percentage of people have one.

Probably only affects cars though. Rolling Eyes

It hurts me to say it but don't hide it from the insurance, you can guarantee that they will use it if you have an accident and didn't declare it.

Carole Nash told me a few years ago that they don't count the first speeding conviction, but I suppose like anything age and length of time with licence may affect it too.

some insurers take it into account and it will effect your premiums, some insurers dont bother. however if you dont let your insurer know about it and you have a claim and they find out about the fine they are well within their rights to null your policy as they consider it non-disclosure.
