hi guys, the time has come to replace our citroen xsara, and we have seen a ford focus '53 plate 1.8 tdci ghia. A test drive revealed it to be fairly comfy and quite punchy, but im after advice from any owners here..
how have you found your focus to live with? reliability, mpg, etc etc.
cheers Thumbs Up

My mate has a focus, reliable as hell his one is, don't know about in general though. The handling is prety damn good (i borrowed it for a while) I found it quite fun chucking the fooker round the bends.

MPG would depend on the size of the engine, cant see it being bad though.

We use TDCi Focuses (Focusii, Focus's... Whatever the bleedin' plural is) as "Community Paramedic" cars.
Excellent cars... The Diesel is a peach... Fast too.

Mine destroyed 3 transmissions in 11,000 miles before Ford bought it back for every cent I'd ever spent on it...
I'll stick with my V8's instead of those puny little mower engines from now on...

Ive got an 02 petrol 1.6 and its a brilliant car. Great chassis with sweet handling. Very comfy and a great cruiser arse doesnt go numb even after driving all day. Ive put 11k on it in 5 months and nothing has gone wrong at all.

The TDCI is the engine to go for, I would have snapped one up if I could have found a nice low milage example. As its a Ghia it will be fully kitted and will hold its value thanks to the TDCI badge on the back. As for fuel econonmy a friend has a TDCI mondeo and he regulary gets 55-60 mpg. 120bhp too so are very nippy. Would definetly reccomend one

I've got an X reg 1600 ghia and bought it when it was just over 2 yrs old 4-5 years ago with 14k on it. It's now just gone over 70k and still running great and the air con still works without having had to do anything to it yet!!

It's broken down once due to an engine management part, otherwise very, very reliable. Only bad thing is the engine size, 1600 just really isn't enough anymore - I would say a minimum would be 2.0l, and always go for the luxury version, so much more comfy!... Have fun! Thumbs Up

Just check underneath for oil leaks and you wont go far wrong with a focus, for some reason they seem more reliable than the mondeo.
Mondeo tdci's are forever smoking like troopers and having flywheels that come loose and egr valves that fail regularly, dont buy a mondeo tdci. Laughing
