I have a quick question about Renthals and the Hornet 600. I have searched prior to posting.....(BCF, Google, etc etc)

Which ones are the closest match to the OEM bars?

I want to get some blue ones but quite like the riding position as it is and was hoping to get renthals nearly the same dimensions as the Hornet standard bars.
I am away at the moment and cant just pop into the garage to measure them. Just wondered if anyone knew off the top of their head.
I have read on here that they are a pain to fit. Can anyone share their experience.
Thanks in advance.
Sam

I've got some on mine, but all I know is that they're 7/8" diameter (the bike came with them on). I'd imagine as long as you get the right diameter you can't go far wrong, but I don't know what would be the closest match to the OEM ones.

From looking at kawashimas sizing picture:
https://www.bandcexpress.co.uk/images/products/renthal-dimensions.jpg

I have very roughly measured my bars and A is 680mm, C is 70mm and D is 170mm. There doesn't seem to be any sweep (E). I'll get you a picture of the bars later when my batteries have charged for my camera, but the bars don't look that far from the standard ones to me.

I just fitted some renthals on mine... you can see the thread here, the before and after shots might be useful... I had the same dilemma about which to go for and after asking about found out that most people went for the ultralows on the hornet.

So I went for the ultralow 7/8 bars, they're a little lower than the standard ones, definitely a bit wider and I can also notice more 'sweep' (as its called on the diagram above), but thats just how it feels to me, I haven't measured anything.
I would say if you want as close to the standard ones as possible, go for the 'road bike low' model, but thats just a guess based on the fact that the ultralows are only a little lower than standard...

There's a renthals fitting guide for the hornet here

Good luck Thumbs Up

Mine are a lot higher than Keens and look pretty much the same as his standard ones, but in gold. So I'm guessing mine are at least Mediums.

(Excuse the poor camera/photographer Laughing)

I put some renthals on my bandit. (No idea what type of renthals)

But they felt a lot more 'agressive'. My riding position was brought more over the bars, and my hands were wider apart. I loved it.

So don't be afraid of changing them from standard!

Renthals on a hornet or bandit should be mandatory.

Just makes them look hardcore. Mr. Green

Thanks for the links guys. I did see find them but they just added to the confusion. Embarassed

Will definately look into the Mediums and the road bike lows as Keen suggested. I saw your thread and you mentioned that you had a little more weight on your wrists but could feel the front end more. Decisions decisions.

MarkJ, your bike looks awesome with the gold bars!!! and thanks for the rough dimensions. It give me something to compare with.

Cheers Gaz for the advice about going from standard, I suppose the worst that can happen is I dont like it and I sell them and get different ones. This will be my first modification and I guess I am a little nervous about screwing up my baby!!!!

Thanks for your help! Smile

I should point out that the ultralows are by no means uncomfortable. I commute on my hornet everyday and overall I find the new bars more comfortable than standard. I like the extra width and by having a little weight on my arms it takes the strain off my lower back.

Like you say the bars aren't expensive and they can easily be removed, you've got nowt to lose Thumbs Up

Just another question (your going to be sick of me by the time I finish this modification), How easy is the marking out and drilling?

I assume you can use the old bars as a template.

I read somewhere that the switch gear has a locating lug, hence the need for the hole.

I cut the locating lug off my switchgear, easier than drilling a hole.

How much are renthal bars? Considering them on my Bandit.

I think I may try the 7/8" mediums unbraced. The gold ones in the pictures above look very similar to OEM.
I think they are around 30 pounds so if you dont like them or want to try flatter bars they wont break the bank.

I am a little tempted by leaving the comfort zone and going for lows though!

Easiest way would be to bolt an old 929cc (I think) Fireblade engine in Laughing

Other than that get some dynojet kits and set it up with a full race exhaust system, although you'll still only get around 100ish and lose another 20 miles out of the already small fuel tank Laughing

Are sure you're using all the power available to you? How long have you had your licence?

Update!!!
Following the BMF at the weekend and the fact the sun is shining, i bit the bullet and bought the blue Renthal road bike mediums.
they are very slightly wider than OEM and i am made up...cant wait to fit them!
please dont shoot me down, but i also got the Hornet Harri grips. Embarassed well i think they are cool.

need to get bar ends now. i have read that the Renthal ends are not weighted and may lead to increased vibration..anyone found this.
Cheers
Sam

I will have a word with the other half. I think he will take them into work as they have a big bench drill thing.
I dont trust myself with a hand held, i know i will wreck them!
I have a picture.

Cant wait to get them on. I havent seen many Hornets around Widnes. Not with blue bars anyway!

Went shopping at the BMF too. got a new lid! Sorted for the summer now!
