Has anyone failed the noise test on a trackday?

If you have what db was your exhaust and what track was it. Did you get refund?

castle combe are saying they may not allow stock 2007 gsxr600/750/1000 and 2006 yammy r6's on the track because of the short stock exhaust.

Im truly buggered because i got a racefit growler!! Exhaust is about 125db full whack and around 115db at 8k.

Any tracks that are more lenient than others.

Castlecoombe is about the worst.
You do not get a refund. Castle coombe expects road legal exhausts, however I wonder if they have realised there's a cat under the stubby exhaust etc?

MSV circuits (snetterton/oulton/brands hatch/cadwell) now check for race limits which is 105.
If you want to do trackdays I'd at least get a race-legal exhaust, if not your original.

Silverstone is also 105dB with Hottrax, unsure about other operators.

Donni is 95dB on quiet days with Hottrax.

but even full yoshi systems will be hitting the 115db mark.

really set me back now, because the growler not only looks the dogs it sounds awesome. And the damn thing cost a small fortune.

Im going to contact racefit see if they make a baffle.

they do make one, but only reduce it by 3-5 decibels.

A full Yoshi race system should be 105 or under at the required distance. I've seen them being tested at both trackdays and race meetings and being passed.

It was also in RiDE or a similar magazine that they noise tested the bikes that coombe's website said would fail and they flew through.

I suspect there's some slightly amateur testing going on.

I think the standard is 1m from the port, at 45 degrees to the outlet.

If you pop down to castle coombe they'll noise test you for free.

Most circuits are beginning to impose a 105dB(A) noise limit these days, and I'm expecting this to begin to carry over to the circuits we (MMRA) use at somepoint this year.

For reference:

https://www.thumperfaq.com/images/sound_test_1.jpg

The exhaust noise is measured with the bike stationary, parallel to the height of the exhaust outlet, 20" away from the outlet at a 45 degree angle to the bike's centre line.

The test is made with the engine warmed up and running in neutral, with the machine vertical. Sound Meters should be set to slow dynamic response, A-weighting. The exhaust should be tested in an open flat space, free of large sound-reflecting buildings and structures. The test should NOT be done during a windspeed in excess of 20mph as this will skew the readings. If it is absolutely necessary to test under these conditions, the wind direction should be parallel to the normal direction of travel of the machine.

The engine should be held at 50% of max revs. The measured noise must not exceed 105dB(A).

Suitable noise and wind meters can be picked up off eBay frequently for little outlay.

Noise Meters

Wind Meters (aka Anemometer)

Handheld Digital RPM Guage (find MAX rpm, divide by two - this is the rpm at which to hold the engine for testing)

Let me know what your retest values are, I like the Growler but obviously if it's too loud I won't get one!

My bike passed the noise test. Just.

The limit was 105db, and mine was exactly on 105db. They wanted to test it at 5000rpm, but I told them it redlines at 7 so that wasn't fair. So they tested it at 4250rpm and it passed.

Its stupidly loud but in a real nice way. My bikes stripped to the frame at the moment. As soon as I put my plastics and tanks on I will noise test it again.

Below is a video, obviously you cant actually tell how loud it is but you can get an idea of the kind of tone it has. Its pretty loud in the video but trust me in person its awesome.

It's because they've tested these bikes in stock trim and they've been over their limit.

That sounds like my Blue flame thin can does haha. Like a jet setting off when you're going through the power bands Cool

I'm going to try with a Beowulf exhaust on, and see whether I'll get away under the 98db limit at Donington, if not then I'll take my standard one as a spare. Apparently standard R6 exhausts put you about 10db under the limit, so are fine.
