Hi ive just solt my frame so i gave the guy the log book , hes a mate so its ok.

Anyway just got a letter through reminding me that the year has run out so i went onine to declaire sorn again but i need my document reference number on my log book , but my mate has it and i cant get intouch with him .

Is there any other way i can go about this?

You should have filled the form in stating you had scrapped the bike or given it away, then it wouldn't have been your problem. You must sorn it if you haven't, you may have to ring DVLA and explain the situation to them. But knowing them you will get fined anyway.

WHy can't you just post the tax reminder off, declaring it SORN?

On the reminder you could tick the SORN box and send that off (or do it online at www.dvla.gov.uk/taxdisc).

Friend or not, you should have sent off the V5C to register the change of ownership - it's the previous keeper's responsibility (i.e. yours!) to notify DVLA.

It go and get the V5C back off your mate, fill it in and send it off (giving him the green V5C/2 New Keeper's Supplement). You'll get a letter back from DVLA confirming you're no longer the registered keeper.
