Ok the notice handing in type thing went badly and I may well be out of a job very vewry soon.

this gives me snap touring possibilities:

But with very little money:

Questions:

#1 NTV vs CBR

NTV is cheaper to run requires £80 to fix the starting problem tyres are good for 3000 more miles, shaft drive goodness, up to 65mpg (going easy)

CBR needs new tyres (<2000 miles left) , is thirstier is more of a theft target but is faster and less comfy up to 45mpg going easy.

#2 Can I just pitch a tent anywhere? , ie wander into a forrest by the side of the road say 3-500 metres in pitch a tent, = lower costs

#3 with 3 weeks and £850 just how far can I get , time = no toll motorways needed , assume virtually ALL of this is going to be spent on petrol, and some food. Ferry tickets and everything else has been considered.

Any thoughts?

Ta

Short observations:-

Should be do-able on that budget.

Wild camping depends on the terrain available - woodland is good, secluded, harder to find spots like that in the Alps and on open plains.

For the sake of the cheap campsite charge (paid 5 euros for a site in the alps once), campsites can be worth it for the showers, clothes/pan washing facilities etc.

May be slightly more secure, too. Less need to worry about 'Deliverance' moments.

Indeed, thought I was getting into one of those moments at a wild camp alongside a river in Spain last summer. Got up to take a piss in the night to see some 'locals' shining a torch at me from the other side of the river.

99% chance harmless but you do tend to take note of where your multitool is kept when those situations arise.

I know that in Sweden (maybe Scandinavia in the whole?) that wild camping is actually legal if you are discrete.
I think the rest of Europe isn't legal with it, but providing you don't pitch up in a motorway layby, you should be fine.

What I would do is look at the places with the cheapest petrol (Iraq? Laughing ) and other amenities. You may be best looking at southern Europe as I believe that other than Eastern Europe (which is maybe a bit too far and camping rough in Romania wouldn't really fill me with confidence!) its the cheapest place around.

Buy food from supermarkets, camp, go to the places with the cheapest petrol and try to get by without needing major servicing (i.e. do your own minor servicing and hope for the best Smile)
