With the Bandit in the garage after being knocked off at a junction AGAIN... the opportunity has arisen for me to change my bandit.

Let me give you the numbers:

R-reg Suzuki Bandit. Nice blue colour, lovely ART racing can (this bike sounds superb). Fast acceleration (for a bandit), but it tops out at about 110, which I believe is low for a bandit, causing me to believe that it's possibly been down-geared? Of course, this bike is also MY bike, it has a good amount of sentimental value. Naked bike, 40k miles. Been told that it's worth around the 1500 mark.

T-reg Kawasaki ZZR 600. Silver, with pretty cool black decals (not sure if they're standard). Bike looks in good condition, and has an iridium screen and Micron exhaust on it. The main thing about this bike is that it's faired, and as I commute to Uni every day, I'd really like to move to a faired bike to give that wind and rain protection that I just won't get on a naked bandit. Also, I believe the ZZR has a good extra 15 bhp over the bandit. I can get the ZZR for about a grand, leaving me with money in my pocket if I were to sell the bandit.

But the main things stopping me are:

1. The mileage on the ZZR is 55k. That's pretty high.
2. I've never owned a Kawasaki, and from what I understand the ZZR isn't as famously reliable as the Bandit is.

...So what are people's opinions of the ZZR600 as a bike? Would you, personally, prefer one over a Bandit? Is the extra 15k miles on the ZZR a big deal? Should I just stick with my bandit and grit my teeth through the wet weather and wind (when winter comes back around) ??

With mileage that high either second gear is fucked or it's just about to be fucked.

If you're handy with spanners it'd probably be alright.

What's stopping you getting a ZZR1100 or a VFR800?

I REALLY wanted a ZZR - In fact I've seen ones with 5,000 miles going for £2,000, and that's a 2000 model, but I decided on a VFR800.

They're quite low bikes too

Heh. What a lovely vibe I get from this thread.

Anyway.. back to the matter at hand....

With ZZR's going for much lower mileage and newer models for around the 2k mark that's certainly something that I'll consider.

I paid about 2400 for a minter 13k 02 plated ZZR-600 when migrating up from the Divvy.

Huge difference, love the improved power, handling, reduced wind resistance and it's far better to commute on than the Divvy was.

Get a low milage one or confirm what work has been done on it. If the Gearbox has had a rebuild then it'll be good for 35k since the rebuild before having to worry about it.

You can probably find a good version for around the £1500-£2000 mark with a little hunting around. No Idea what they are like restricted (I'm assuming you've still a year to go at 33bhp) so it might be worth it keeping the Bandit until your two years are up.

K.
