Not this again...

Bikes and cars are dangerous in different ways. Bikes more dangerous to those riding them, but you will only ever hurt yourself with them. Cars can wipe out many in an accident. Even those that have 5 star crash ratings always have shit pedestrian safety records.

Average car is carrying over 1.5 people

It's actually less than that, the Car Passengers Analysis* finds that the average vehicle occupancy is only 1.2, which probably isn't vastly more than motorcycles. Well, it probably is actually but that means the figure is closer to one person per car than it is to two. And in towns I'm sure one person on a bike is more efficient than one person in a car (and thats even before we start getting into manufacturing efficiency... Rolling Eyes )

I wouldn't normally be so anal but I researched that as part of my dissertation for my business degree Laughing

All that said, I can see why people believe that 100mph plus is antisocial or dangerous... but at the same time it's more important distinguishing between the people who are capable and safe at that speed, and the people who just believe it is their right to speed irrespective of the safety of themselves and others... which might apply to the people boasting in this thread that they've done X number of MPH on the public roads...

Oh well lets just all fucking throw the towel in shall we and catch the bus? Rolling Eyes

We can all be happy with our grey mundane little lives then can't we?

Middle Finger Fuck any attempted legislation on the matter and anyone who really supports it in my book.

Carbon emissions carbon emissions carbon emissions whoop de fucking do, wan't to know what my idea on carbon offsetting is? I told the woman I am not prepared ot have 3 kids - just 2. If figure I just offset millions of tonnes of Co2 right there, nice and easy so forgive me if I want to take pleasure in just about the only thing left that I can enjoy. As for the "don't need" reason - please...

Firstly the link you posted is a Transport 2000 sponsored document, so likely to be as well balanced as a vegitarian society study into the flavour of meat. Secondly the 1.2 figure is just for commuting trips.

The 1.5 figure is easy. Just take the total number of car passenger miles and divide by the number of car miles.

Even the T2000 propaganda admits it to be 1.59 (page 10) for 2002/3.

All the best

Damn, maybe that's why I only got 62% for my dissertation Razz

Anyway point taken! Still, I'd rather do 70, 80, 90mpg in town (or whatever a CG125 or equivalent does) than the 35- ish MPG of my car...

And back on topic, I still think any speeds over the speed limit should be taken with great responsibility... having the ability to do over 100 isn't a human right.

And if you willfully speed in town there should be someone waiting for you with an AK-47 at the next red light...
