Rubbish.....
They lost all their sky channels, and now i have lost Eurosport, UKTV Gold, sci fi, discovery and about 6-7 other channels.
There customer service is crap too.
A total waste of money. Dont go there, people. Twisted Evil

Blame Sky for loss of Sky one etc, not Virgin. Unless you'd like to pay double the price for just them channels?

https://allyours.virginmedia.com/html/sorter/channels_sizexl.html

You'd of only lost Eurosport if you'd of been on the Select pack (Starter TV) or the TV M package. If you pay for your channels then you'll get them. Wink

I knew they had lost the deal with sky before i got the box put in, but i thought id give them a try anyway.
The Eurosport thing really pisses me off because its really the only decent channel they have and it was working ok until a day before the French open started, but now the signal is so weak that the screen is just constantly pixelated. Ive rang them about 5 times to ask if they can boost the signal, but they just keep coming back with the same old story
" we will get one of our technicians to look into it "
Its not cost me much really because i am on the 3 for £30 deal, but still, you expect these things to work dont you ?

I thought I'd stick with it when it switched over. I don't watch much telly, I do miss sky one though, no Stargate Crying or Very sad (God, I'm a saddo... Laughing )

Our broadband has been faulty since xmas, keep having to reboot the modem. When I phone they say, 'reboot the modem' it fixs it and they say 'there you go then.' I know rebooting will sort it, but it needs done everytime I want to connect.

Last time I phoned the woman wanted me to remove all my dial up settings, I asked what difference that would make since its not set up to automatically dial etc etc etc. She didn't know, pretty annoying when you phone up and you know more about it than they do.

I've given up. Brick Wall

We still have Eurosport not sure about the others.

I think the Sky thing is 6 of one and half a dozen of the other, basically Branson and Murdoch can't stand each other so it's playground antics if you ask me.

If you don't like it, vote with your feet. Unfortunately where I live we aren't allowed a Sky dish so I had to stay with Virgin (wouldn't have either if it wasn't for the bike racing). I did however get Virgin to cut my bill by 50 per cent each month to make up the fact that I had lost some channels. They did this quite happily.

Picture breaks up? WTF, it's cable, not like you can have interference. Is there damage to your cable outside your house or something?

Agree on the rest of your comments tho, especially the customer service

I Have to keep rebooting mine too if I've put my pc into standby .I gave up complaining ,they kept saying it was a fault with my pc .
Its not really broadband if you have to keep reconnecting more like dial up.
Would be interesting to know how many other users have this fault ...........

I work for the company and I still had faulty BB for a year!

My BB randomly disconnected itself and would require a reboot. Also the speed was slow.

They replaced the lines outside and gave me a new modem. Thumbs Up

If your broadband modem is freezing up all the time there's a chance it could be stuffed...

I know that if you have the old silver Ambit 2020 modem and you've upgraded your bandwidth at some point & are making the most of it (downloading loads), the Ambit's have a job dealing with constant, heavy data flow...

After i upgraded to 10Mb my modem was constantly freezing, mostly when downloading stuff but sometimes when just browsing etc..

If i was you I'd insist on them doing more than telling you to reload your modem again.... or removing your dial up settings...!!

After a bit of a rant they sent a tech & gave me a newer 2050 modem & it's been pretty stable since then Smile

I didn't know they had call centres abroad... I hate that, I hate being patronised. Neither wonder she had trouble understanding what I was saying, I assumed she was sitting in Edinburgh or Newcastle which is where they've been in the past.

Signal strength is still an issue, if the strength of the current in the cable is insufficient, you'll get that pixellation occuring.

I suspect thats whats happening with the modem also, when the line is inactive it goes into something like a standby mode, the signal strength (or current) dips and you have to reinitialise.

Equally that could be a load of old horse crap. Very Happy

Do you have any neighbours that also have Virgin? If so, might be worth asking if they're having similar problems - if they are chances are it's a problem outside of your property (rather than the cabling on your property itself) and may help with ammunition in your next dealings on the phone. Strength in numbers and all that.

Pixellation and screen tearing can also be due to the box overheating. Even in colder weather if the box doesn't have a good air flow it will overheat and warp/crash.

RF levels... fucked... pixellation... if it aint coax cable or work in franchise area, its a tech job/new box Smile if it re occurs its possibly the cable from cab to omni box. Some of them have lain in the soil for a very long time...

As Tarmac surfer said, overheating can cause it, as well as solder joint problems etc etc.

Dont know anything about broadband however Smile I know broadband undergoes noise busting work quite frequently in most area's...

I've been with Virgin since they were NTL (three years in total). We started off with b/band, TV and phone but the TV was crap - constantly freezing and pixelation as experienced by others - so we stopped that and have b/b and phone now.

No probs with either TBH - the customer service are crap, though.

I've still got all the channels mentioned, had no problems with broadband or the phone and for the price I'm pretty happy.

Did look into changing over when discovery kids went but found out that they had pulled the channel on sky too and it would have cost an extra £20-£25 with sky + the cost of getting a bt line installed.

Hey guys... We had a very similar problem to some people here and after ages on tech support to everywhere probably including Outer Mongolia, we got a manager type guy who asked us some basic stuff about our modem settings.

To cut a long story short, I found a page explaining what we had to do and its exactly the same problem as we had

https://redlex.livejournal.com/28662.html

Its something to do with the downstream frequency being too strong. Go to the gscan.htm page that he mentions in the article and change it to the new frequency. Try and see if it works.
Did wonders to our 'disconnect every 30 mins' connection!

Got it sorted now. The young kid who originally fitted the cable from the street had put the wrong cable through the wall, so the technician put me a new cable in and now its all fixed.
