Hmm...just thinking about putting Goodridge brake lines on me RVF, and was just wondering if you ppl would bother plumping the extra money for Stainless steel lines?
Here are the prices (2 Front, 1Rear):
Zinc/Chrome: £62.28
Stainless Steel: £97.53 ( )
These are for covered hoses, uncovered ones will be about £7 cheaper.

My VFR came with braided Goodridge stainless brake lines (on the front only ), covered in a nice ( ) yellow cover. They work spot on, but as these have always been on the bike since I bought it I couldnt comment on how much better they are than standard hoses. ____________________ "Unlike public school you don't need to have your arse up and your head down to go a long way...." |

ROFL@ stew's YELLOW hoses!! (...me knows just how 'much' stewy 'loves' YELLOW!!!)
.....Tin....
Stainless steel matey.
Chrome ones knacker up too easily.
And definately get the covered ones....
i knew someone that had uncovered ones...and hose rubbed itself into a *nice* groove on the forks!!
(i was also told that apparently uncovered hoses - lying within a certain disrtance of the bike 'body' is also an mot failure)

I went for the stainless steel covered hoses..... If you look at even new bikes which have the zinc/chrome fittings you'll notice that they've corroded already - doesn't look very nice! May as well go for the extra ssshhhhiiiinnnnnniiiiiiness (so to speak) ____________________ Avast! Pirates ahoy!

FWB Fasteners in Stoke on Trent, Braided hosed while u wait, stainless / stainless. Stainless Ally, approx £40 for afull set, just take your bike and they will measure up for you, and give you the right banjo's.
and no...I dont work for them...
Most industrial fastening companies will do it, I have never yet paid anywhere near the going rate for brake lines.
Also hydraulic suppliers have those nice Carbon / Kevlar ones too, also aboput 50% of the "bike price£.

Braided hoses are brake/oil line that have the usual rubber hose but with (in the case of stainless steel hoses) steel (odd that) wrapped(or braided) around them. This stops the rubber expanding when the presure inside is increased - i.e when your braking. This means that all the pressue you put on the lever goes into the caliper and therefore braking instead of expanding the rubber hoses.
Oh, and go with stainless. Some of the others(zinc i think, but imnot sure) can corrode from the inside without you knowing until they suddenly fail under pressure, i.e when your braking!! ____________________ BCF: Be yourself, just don't be an arse. |

Go for the covered ones for sure Tin. Also, I wouldn't recommend putting braided on the back brake unless you are used to them. They don't give as much feedback as rubber so you end up locking up the back end when you really don't want too! |

Cheers for the replies
Hmm...yeah, Mike got me thinking, I suppose that I don't really need stronger braking power on the back, seeing as I only use it to slow down rather than actually stopping. That'll save me 30 quid then! ____________________ TiN

Hmph!
Despite my bike being a Tri-Arm..... I got my braided hoses home and looked at them.....then looked at my bike.... then looked at the manual...then looked at the bike....then looked at a RiDE write up on the various guises of the CBR400 and concluded that....
MY BIKE HAS GULL-ARM brakes on it humph. So now I have got to return my hoses with the "I ordered the wrong model...." grrrr!!! Wretched imports!
Ummmm....Geoff - you got any more details about that place up in Stoke?? (PLEASE!!) ____________________ Avast! Pirates ahoy!
