I would be glad of any help here. I have searched around on the forum a bit but I still need to know some things.

Basically, cut a long story short, my friend wants to sell his NSR125 because he has decided to learn to drive and get a car instead. No idea why! Anyway, its a 1990 NSR125 with 34k KM on the clock and he is selling it for 200-300 notes. Cosmetically its pretty tatty. He has fallen off it several times so both sides of fairing arent on and it needs new indicators. The engine seems good though. I have ridden it several times myself before and after he decided he wanted to sell it. Here comes my problem though. I know nothing about 2t's so I dont know what condition the engine is in or how to tell if its okay. When you accelerate hard it shits out quite a lot of smoke but its supposed to, right?

I know 2t's require top end rebuilds and the such every now and then but my mechanical knowledge goes as far as changing the oil so I wanted to know if this type of thing is done in a service? Also, how long in general do the engines last?

I already have a 125 but I just wanted something a bit faster to rag around for a bit until I save up some cash for a bigger bike.

Cheers.

The guy with the NSR is one of my best mates and I know he wouldnt sell it knowing there is something wrong. He only paid £300 for it 6 months ago. Mainly because the fairing was cracked. And then he finished it off.

Very Happy If that's the case, break his arm for it. It's worth 3 times that in parts alone. Conservatively.
