Hello all, I'm gonna be budgeting for some new bike gear in the very near future - my £140 HG textile "courier" jacket has now got lots of holes in, has stopped being very waterproof and smells a little , and my Spada trousers zips have jammed stuck (no amount of lube loosening them) and the catch has snapped off (wow, what quality).

So I was looking for advice on new gear.
Despite "safety" I can't really justify leathers because I ride all the time, and they're not flexible/cheap enough and dont have enough pockets, so don't try and convince me.

I'm budgeting aroun £100-£150 for jacket, and £50-£100 for trousers, and I NEED them to be waterproof, comfortable, preferably look good. Been looking at Alpinestars T-Dyno jacket, any ideas on it?

THANKS!

My Cordura kit is all from Hein Gericke - I've got a Cruise jacket and trousers and they're good (although the jacket is away having a zip repaired again).

If it's got holes... well stop falling off then!

If it pongs a bit then wash it - use Nikwax stuff rather than Daz (other detergents are available) and it should come out good as new.

As with everything, make sure it fits properly so the armour doesn't move from where you want it.

oi mate its not from falling off! Just general wear and tear (most recently having screwdrivers in my pockets). Its also completely discoloured.

And, the pockets were never waterproof, which pissed me off. What kind of manufacturer sells waterproof gear without waterproof pockets?? Broke a phone due to not considering that.

So probably won't be buying HG again.

Sorry, should have put a Wink in there...

Whichever jacket you buy, the outer pockets are never going to be totally waterproof. Water will get in everywhere. My mobile always goes in the inside pocket.

Carrying screwdrivers in your 'bike jacket isn't a good idea - the thought of landing on them in an 'off' is just horrible!

Of the kit out there, HG kit is good value - I'm not saying it's the best, but you get a lot for your money.

I got a jacket from Dainese. Not sure what the model name is but it was around 140 pounds. I've had no problems whatsoever. Its so waterproof that I use it for snowboarding and it protects me more agains cold and snow than my ski jacket. It's got shoulder and elbow protection and a zip at the back to slot in a spine. I highly recommend dainese
