anyone know how to remove/lift the tank on a honda hornet

hi all,

sorry to post in here as well as the workshop but i need to know how to get at the sparkplugs on a 98 honda hornet.

i have the seat off and have removed the nuts and spindle from the end of the petrol tank.

bike is currently in the house.

if anyone with a hornet that had done this can help me out i'll send you a four pack of your choice.

Make sure you've turned the fuel tap to 'off' and run the bike for a minute to drain some of the fuel out of the fuel hose.

Right so you'll have the spindle nut holding the back of the tank to the frame out, allowing you to lift the end up about 2 inches. It doesn't raise any higher because the fuel tap and pipe touches the choke adjuster. Pull the choke out to give you a bit more room then pull the main fuel line off with your fingers or pliers - there may be a clip holding it on also, and ever if there isn't a clip it can still be stuck on quite tight so give it a good yank. Then pull out the second, smaller, rubber pipe from the fuel tap (the vacuum hose). Go round to the right side of the tank and pull off the breather pipe (this is all being done whilst having that 2 inches of height - it is a bit fiddly). Then you need to slide the tank backwards off the rubber bushes at the front, but with it being no higher than 45 degrees - it only likes to come off at a certain angle but once you find this angle it'll come off no problem.

Getting it back on can be a bit of a pain with regards to the fuel pipe - the breather and vacuum pipes go on easy. The fuel hose will have to be pushed on whilst the tank is back at that 2 inches of height with a pair of pliers (just make sure you don't grip too hard and knacker up the fuel line - I have a pair of old pliers with no 'teeth' left on them for this job).
