Hey, ive a 2005 Honda CG and the electric start button doesnt seem to do anything, the lights just dim when i press it, no noise at all comes from it.
Any ideas as to what the problem could be?
Cheers,
Kam

Try charging the battery, has the bike been sitting for a long time? or doing really short journeys?

The CG that I had on my CBT had a kick start, do they not come with one now then?

Sounds like the battery is flat, try and bump start and go for a nice long ride Thumbs Up

I have a battery charger that does cars and bikes, cost around 30 quid and has been brilliant investment, cant bump my sv650s and dont fancy trying to jump on and fall of. 30 mins charge and bike fires up first time, just make sure if you bump or quickly charge it, take it for a good 20 miles ish run atleast id say.

Nope, i don't have a clue why either, kickstarts on small bikes are essential i think, because the electrics on small bikes are very crude and damn right awful sometimes (from what I've seen anyway). With the amount of troubles I've had with my electrics I'm thankful its a kickstart. Laughing

The kickstart on the YBR has proved its worth, especially when the bike was new and didnt really want to turn oer at the button.

Also great if you have an alarm etc, as they drain the battery if you dont go for a decent ride every 3-4 days or so, but the kickstart means you can leave it for weeks without being used.

I have a 2 year old Honda CG125, the original battery is maintence free type and I have had no trouble with it, but I do use the bike at least every 2 weeks and its done over 10,000 miles.

Sounds to me like its gone flat due to lack of use.

Borrow / buy a battery charger and give it a full charge.

Just remember to disconnect the red and or black wire from the bike to the battery first.

An automatic battery charger is advisable and you can use a universal one (normally sold as a car battery charger).

An automatic one checks the battery as it charges and stops it from overcharging.
This means it can be used on small batteries (the CG is 4ah) as well as cars.

The automatic bit is also more important on maintence free battery’s since they do not like overcharging due to excess gassing.

The automatic bit will also tell you if the battery’s knackered, if its knackered it will never fully recharge (the battery chargers meter will never drop to 0).

If the battery is knakered, I advise you replace it with another maintance free one, since they claim it will not self discharge as fast and has more power when turning the starter motor and recharges faster. All this might be critical to the Honda since the battery is so small.

When you press the start button, the headlight is cut off to give more power to the starter.

The normal DIY way to check how charged your battery is, is to press the horn and the tone tells you how charged it is.

I tried bump starting it yesterday but didnt exactly run as it was chucking it down and was freezing. My dad had one of those mobile battery things which also has a tire inflator and a light on it (think he got it from Aldi a few years back) i'll give that a go, thanks all!

Yeah sounds like the battery is flat.

You can also jump start it from a car.
