Could be wrong, but i don't think chain is covered in the MOT.
As to taking a link out, that would depend on what type of bike it is. Used to do it all the time on X7's and LC350's. But would not fancy it on a larger more powerfull bike. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

i failed a mot on a loose chain, rode the bike home tightened the chain and replaced blown park light (also a requirement for mot) and took it back an hour later.
as long as the chain is not slack its fine and will pass. if its damaged or loose it'll fail ____________________ the humans are dead

| Quote: | Reason for rejection
Particular attention should be paid to all highly stressed parts of the machine, such as frame joints and connections, reaction brackets and attachment points of shields and fairings.
It is particularly important to check for corrosion of box sections and fabricated parts. (See Appendix C)
It may be necessary to remove or raise panels to permit the further examination of the structure (See Introduction item 4).
Pillion foot rests are not required on machines that only have a single seat fitted ie no provision for a pillion. In addition certain machines used on or after 14th June 1993. which are intended to carry a passenger may not be fitted with footrests but with hand holds attached to the machines frame adjacent to. or part of the seat. Refer to manufacturers information eg owners handbook.
When rejecting transmission and associated components for wear, defects, security or adjustment, the severity of the defect should be where early failure/detachment is likely and where jamming of the rear wheel is likely.
A throttle friction device will not constitute a reason for rejection unless it adversely affects the throttle operation.
1. Examine the motor bicycle (and side car) structure for cracks, damage, distortion and corrosion.
2. Check all other parts of the machine for defects which might make it dangerous to ride on the road.
1.
a. any crack, damage, distortion or corrosion in the motor bicycle or side car structure which is likely to affect the correct functioning of the steering or braking.
b. any deliberate modification which significantly reduces the original
strength.
2.
a.(i) missing drivers seat or footrest
{ii) insecure seat or footrest
component.
b. a fault which is likely to impede the rotation of the rear wheel e.g. a seriously defective transmission component or chain guard
c. a chain/belt guard, insecure or fouling another component
d. a drive chain/belt excessively loose. tight, or fouling another component
e. a drive chain, belt, sprocket or sprocket carrier worn to excess.
f. a malfunction of the throttle control or linkage that does not allow the throttle to operate as intended (see information column)
g. a throttle that is affected when the steering is moved from lock to lock
h. a clutch lever so damaged, positioned, bent or shortened that it cannot be readily operated
i. any locking device not correctly fitted e.g. the horseshoe device on a drive chain fitted with split facing the direction of rotation.
Issue Date:July 2001

If your chain is not too slack even if it is at its last available adjustment it should still pass. ____________________ Cbr1100xx blackbird gone, mk4 golf gt tdi chav now
