Every now and then it just dies- its like the throttle stops responding then I have no choice but to go down the gears and come to a halt. Its been in and out of the garage where all electrics have been checked (new coil and alternator fitted), compression tests done and fuel system all checked out. What the fuck is wrong with it? anyone any ideas?

It can run for ages sometimes and at others it dies about a mile from my front door. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

I think I'm gonna have to sell it cos I hate it. I look at it in the garage and all I think of is repair bills and fucking long sweaty walks home. I haven't had any enjoyment out of it at all- and I mean that literally cos even when it's running all I can think of is when its gonna break down.

Hi

My guess would be a blocked breather hose as the bike is fine afterwards. Try opening the petrol cap next time it happens, let it sit for a few seconds then close the cap again and try starting it

Most other mechanical problems would be more perminant, and you say they have checked out the electrics

All the best

Keith

I agree with Keith, blocked breather or possible sticking float ???

my son was on the brink of selling his GSXR750, after repeated problems, two hours after an afternoon on a dyno, and £100 worse off it f****d up again, it was heading for the trade in..then lo and behold, we discovered a trapped fuel line, problem solved, its now fine.

check fueling mate that sounds favourite.

after all, you paid money for it, you DESERVE some enjoyment from it.
besides, if you trade it in, you will probably accept less than it is worth, just to get rid.

Thats what my dad said when it first started happening- so I checked the breather pipe my taking it off and blowing through it- but it was clear. I did notice though the last time it broke down (on a test ride last night) when I opened the cap it sort of hissed like there was an intake of air into the tank. Is this normal? cos maybe the little plug the breather connects to on the bottom of the tank is blocked up?

Hi

Sounds more than probable. Not sure on the plannet, but where does the breather pipe go? Is it possible that the hose can get folded over as you lower the tank, so blocking it (same with the fuel hose itself)

all the best

Keith

worth a look- thanks Smile
I remember both pipes run awkwardly under the tank, but its in the garage now so I'll mention it to the mechanic. I would of thought he would have checked for this though?
