he went to Spain via the Plymouth Santander route, but only one way coming back via Calais, get to Plymouth early go to the Barbican and say hi to my old Clan at Jaspers too. I'm thinking of doing this trip later this year.

South of France and Spain still warm at that time of year.

Be wary of North west Spain. I rode through there in October. It was freezing with heavy drizzle. We had to stop at a roadside bar/cafe to buy hot drinks to warm up after a couple of hours. We asked for two coffees expecting two big,big mugs of coffee- big disappointment when the barman brought us two coffee cups the size of thimbles. Laughing We knocked those back and asked straightaway for bigger ones which we got.

The N260 going east from Biescas or the N152 here. Smile

If going from one side of the Pyrenees to the other you don't want to go North of the mountains as that's in France Razz. Take the E7 from France to Spain, then follow the N260 going east, then the N152 briefly and then back onto the N260 which goes all the way to Figures then you could just go on the E15 to get to Perpignan. Not quick roads, but all very twisty mountain roads apart from the E7 & E15.

Should be able to that in one day's riding. Thumbs Up

If you're taking maps, avoid the 'Rough Guide' ones. They're not very up to date despite what they might claim on the cover.

Eurocart Euro Regional Map 1:300 000

Costa Brava Pyrenees

ISBN 3-575-11275-4

GeoCentre

Just got back this weekend from a Spain and France trip and used this map. Lots of detail.

Shame you are hammering across in one day.

The following were fun Smile

The 240, 260 and the road looping North off the 240 from Berdun up the Veral valley to Anso and across the top then down the Esca valley to Sigues and the 240 (though the top 4k are in shocking condition) followed by the minor road leading South off the 240 past the monastery de la Pena to Bernules. The 131 from Puente de montanana on the 230, over the top to Tremp is excellent as is the 138 Barbastro/Graus/Banabarre road round the lakes (keeping them generally to your right).

I've posted a few piccies on the tour thread.
