A mix of touring AND tyre question which is sort of like one foot in each boat multiple question time

#1 see pic how many miles do you reckon are left in this tyre?

Considering touring there will be 250 miles to dover + 250 miles in France till I get anywhere
interesting enough to use the sides of the tyres.

In my absolutely piss poor planning I neglected to think about tyres , I did the valve checks,
oil change , brake pad change , bulb change, carb clean out carb sync and woke up and thought
shite need tyres, so I called around my usual indie tyre men, completely inconveintly enough all
3 of my tyre men are touring, and won't be back for ages I leave 10pm Monday night!,

I'm thinking I can get near Paris before my tyres start getting illegal and get them changed somewhere
there, considering 2 facts :

>1 its a CBR , CBRs are common as muck and unlike NC30s any place worth their salt will
have say a set of Conti's/ BT20s for me in France right?

>2 SVP deux pneu pour mes Moto SVP , marque Continental (which I think is a french Brand
anyway) , a arrive'e (front) et a derrierie (rear) & my wingman who is meeting me will be able
to direct me to a decent bike shop.

I do still have Monday day time to get a change before hand, though many places are closed
anybody know any that are open Mondays? , heard of SMD and TST but never used them both
and it will be pretty much a sunk cost anyway and thus better to take the hit now than on the
road when they REALLY have me by the bollox.

Any thoughts?

Ta

I took a hayabusa to france and back with that much tread on and came back with enough to get it to the tyre place. did about 1500 miles on it (BT56) two up. You can get tyres fitted while you wait in france, just like at home. Tyres are about £10 - £15 more expensive dependant were you are. Most major towns will have quick fit type garages. That tyre has 1K miles of hooning left on it. Easy.

Pneu is the French for tyre. So your almost there mate Thumbs Up

If you doubt the tyre's life expectancy then I would recomend a change.

Many reasons.
More tread means less chance of a ferry missing puncture. Froggy Motorway breakdown cost.

Safer if your in the wet and on unfamiliar roads.

It looks posh to those lazy continentals who don't even bother wearing bike gear..... Razz

If you buy new remember to scrub them in for the regulation 100 miles (160.93kms).

Check pressures at first fill up.

PS I can't see the pic. Embarassed

The law says 1mm min for bikes. 1,6 for cars.

But tyre manufactures and road safety types say it should be more.

1.5 would be close to shite.

Measure the tread across the tyre and see for yourself.

Bon Voyage
