Hi

My YBR stock tyers after 3500miles are getting rather low, especially the rear one. I will take some pics of it when i get back from work tonight. My Questions are:

1) What tyres should i put on as the yamaha ones are completly SHITE. Michelin recommend these for my bike https://two-wheels.michelin.com/2w/front/TyreSelector?lang=EN&cd_pays=2e30&cd_marque=494e484c&cd_modele=4d4d49434f&cd_cylindree=4d4c4d4248&cd_annee=4c4a4d4b4a are these going to be ok as i do about 200miles a week?

2) How much do you think a new front and rear tyre plus fitting would cost me?

3) Dont worry if you cant answer this one till Ive got pictures but is it worth hanging on a couple of weeks till the 4000miles service then change them while im there?

Thanks for anyhelp
Matt

I assume you have read my reports on those Michelin Pilot sporty tyres on the Honda CG125. If not, they are a massively better in every way to my original tyres, cornering speed is doubled (engine power is only limit), rolling resistance reduced, comfort and feel of the road all improved. Even braking and side winds are improved.

I can now report that I have done over 2000 miles on them and have no measurable tread depth reduction. The original tyres were Pirelli City Demons and they wore out at 8500 miles. Your Yamaha is likely to wear out tyres faster since you have better acceleration due to your overhead cam (mines push rod).

The only reason I would not go for the Michelins is if you intend to sell the bike very soon, since they are expensive, you could buy something cheap to save money.

I saved money on the tyres by shopping around and took the wheels out of the bike and re fitted them. The shops charged me for the tyres and fitting to loose wheels only (means the wheels are not in the bike anymore). See if you owners manual shows you how to remove and reinstall the wheels, its pretty easy with 2 people.

If you buy mail order, will you have to pay someone to fit them to the wheels? If so it is often cheaper to buy the tyres locally since they may fit them for free to loose wheels.

I have never fitted tyres, since you have an inner tube, it can go wrong (unless you are experianced) and a blow out at speed is no fun.

I shoped around and asked the same question back in oct 2006, how much for these tyres and for you to fit them to loose wheels.

My local Honda dealer quoted £85

My local tyre dealer that fits cars, motorcycles, tractors & trucks quoted £86

Another Honda dealer quoted £115 and loads of other motorcycle dealers all quoted around the same.

When I looked at mail order prices, they were only slightly lower than £85 but their was no fitting! I can not remember how much lower, was it £75?

I just went on the ebay home page and entered pilot sporty in the search box.

Only 2 things came up.

Front = £37 + £6.95 postage

Rear = £42 + 6.95 postage

They are the correct sizes for your bike

Thats £92.90, thats a rip off unless Michelin have put up their prices since Oct 2006.
