stick with teaching supply work

im a driving recruitment consultant, and on van work, the best you can expect is £6ph , a day here and there, and as everyone has a car license it might be a while before they use you

you are far better off doing supply teaching, just sign up with lots of education supply agencies

This is such an awful situation to be in. They are looking for teachers in Scotland, as long as your Polish, you'll get a job. I'm being serious! As for work agencies, they have been turning British people away and accepting applications from east Europeans ONLY.

I hope youfind something soon, very soon.

Laughing That made me laugh, til I thought about it and realised you might actually mean it. Sad

So let's have your sources for that little gem huh? In the meantime perhaps those of us who work in recruiting or with recruiters could share how long this policy has been in place? Rolling Eyes

Personally I do the books for 3 small agencies employing between them maybe a couple of thousand people. I think perhaps 10 of them are Eastern European (mostly Albanians for some reason) so my observations don't bear out your statement.

Colin, how many good hard-working white englishmen have you turned onto the dole so you can give their jobs to dirty poles then? Rolling Eyes

In my experience the agency jobs go to those who actually turn up when and where they are supposed to be and put in a days work when they get there, regardless of their ethnic origin. However, we are now required to keep stats on ethnic origin to ensure that we do not discriminate so I can tell you that that tends to be the over-40s of any nationality, the Chinese, afro-carribean females and some of the Eastern Europeans. The worst and most work-shy are white males aged 18-30, closely followed by white females of the same age and British Asians once again of the same age. I can provide statistics from attendance records to back that up if you'd like to see them.

I only know of one agency that only employs East Eurpoeans, they are run by an English woman and her Polish partner, and at the moment they are not doing teriffically well from what I understand. Mostly because whoever they have on the books as potential workforce they still have to get a client contract to fill in the first place........

On one day last week, we had a decent polish articulated lorry driver come to register, and at the same time there was a college lecturer (just made redundant) coming to register for van driving work.

The polish guy was keen, good attitude, about 20 years experience, however he had no english work references and his english was a bit ropey, so I had to turn him away.

First impressions of the former college lecturer was that he was gonna be a pain. It seems now that his gruff demeanour with attitude may just be his protective skin. Hes got no experience, but we'll keep him busy a few days a week. His meticulous cdt teacher ways will mean he will show up on time, answer the phone when we ring him and wont drive off with the handbrake on unlike some of our lazy regulars.

Babyam, on another note. A lot of our big lorry drivers are self employed and pay through the nose each week to companies like 'backoffice' (£25 a week i think) rather than having an accountant to do their figures once a year.

We already have a doctor who can do cut price medicals.

It would be good to have an accountant familiar with the trucking world, who we could refer our drivers to. Is this kind of thing standard fare or are there specialist trucking accountants ?

on the industrial side of our office its a bit different

Some of our client companies have a policy that they dont want people from tipton, and do want people from eastern europe, as they have found that there is a big difference in the quality of their work, and language isnt an issue in factory work the way it is for drivers.

Sorry to anyone in tipton who wants factory work, but you are being discriminated against.
