My life recently has taken a bit of a turn for the worst. I lost my dream job last year, have been made redundant twice in 6 months, split up with my fiancee and im about to lose my house.
But somthing has just put my life into perspective.
I recently started a new job which isnt half bad and the blokes here are awesome. Anyway, I met a bloke here last friday called rob who like me is a bike nutter! He seems to eat sleep and drink bikes, we spent the entire afternoon gassing about the bikes we had owned in the past and how proud he was of his new zx6r. We even talked about accidents and he told me he wasnt scared to die "your numbers up when it comes" he told me
We had also arranged to meet up at MFN this weds as he had never been.

Last night i received a call from a workmate to tell me that rob and his daughter had died in a crash after he had picked her up from uni.
I cant begin to imagine the pain his wife is going through right now, not only losing her husband but her daughter too. My thoughts are going out to her.

This is going to be a changing point in my life. From now on im determined to live my life how i want to, im going to enjoy myself and not let anything drag me down.

rest in peace rob and gemma.

Shit, sorry to hear that mate, RIP

Don't forget it can be the 'nothing to lose' attitude that can get you unstuck in the first place.

RIP to them both..
Condolences with the family

and hope your future becomes brighter from here on!!

(It puts things into perspective for me too - cos I often take the OH or my son on the bike... and I don't know what the family would do if any of us was to have a serious or fatal accident)

Oh god. That's terrible, condolences to the family Sad

On another note, glad you've taken the positive attitude regarding the whole situation, many would jack it in having experienced that. Thumbs Up

ok hes you mate but 'what a tit' i thought.

riding a bike is only as dangerous as you want it to be, nothing to do with fate

What a fucking waste, ok i cant know it was his fault, but some tit killing himself is one thing, killing his daughter too is just wrong.

On the upside, you werent mates with him long enough for you to have been influenced by his suicidal riding style.

I know hes your mate, but im sick of the attitude that you can ride like a tit if you want cos when your number up its up.

Load of bollocks.

I dont know if there is anyway you can help his wife, but I hope there is, I cant even begin to imagine the pain she will be going through.

Col, I can't disagree with your sentiment if that is what happened but I think you made a few too many assumptions there mate. Maybe we should wait to see how the accident happened before we pass judgement? The bloke might not of even been on a bike based on the information posted.

Totally agree with Colin, It is a hard thing to say but the entire " ain't afraid to die, if your numbers up, etc" attitude stinks.
I feel for them all but we are not only responsible to ourselves.
I see Colin is using one of my quotes in his sig line, I still believe what I wrote then when my mate Nick died.

I recently had the same happen to me my brother inlaw was in a car being driven by his sister when she lost control and he was throw out of the rear window and died on the way to hospital and everyone else in the car is ok now, anyway everyday i think how it could easly be me as i screech round the corner in my van nodding hello to him ( i always imagine him standing watching me as he used to love going fast !!!), the point being it is very easy to take the attitude sod it if i die i die but you always have to remember the onces you leave behind that suffer, it also means my partner hates me going out on my bike BOOO HOOO anyway basically dieing is easy living on is the hard bit

condolences to anyone who has lost a loved one

I don't necessarily believe that "When you're number is up.." stuff, but I do believe that most people have an overconfidence in their own ability to prevent accidents on motorcycles.

You should never be complacent about anything is really what he was saying. He wasn't saying it was OK if he died, he was just being philosophical about death.

Its a bit harsh to say that it was all his fault etc, especially as we do not know the details of the accident. I would even go as far as to suggest that if other members of the forum made the comments that colin made, they would have been flamed to high heaven for being disrespectful about a dead man.

Sorry to hear about your workmate mr_fisty.

Can't disagree strongly enough with those decrying a fatalistic attitude. It's a gross misrepresentation to state that it leads to dangerous riding/lifestyles and an inherently shorter life. Just because I accept the fact that I will die sometime doesn't mean I'm suicidal or going to do anything less tham my utmost to make sure it isn't today... In terms of 1930ariels quote, you're right. Humans are inherently selfish creatures though, it comes with self awareness.

Marjay, I'm inclined to agree with you. Colin comes out with so many crackers it's hard to decide when and how to rate him though, hence being left alone in the main Wink

Just an update,
It appears they were killed after being hit by a van on travelling on the wrong side of the road. So we have been told the van driver was an uninsured, unlicensed illegal immigrant.
They were traveling below the speed limit as it was raining heavily, when the van came round a blind corner on the wrong side of the road at 60 + mph, clipping the bike and sending it into a tree.
The driver of the van drove off without stopping but was caught later by police.
