okey my 2003 nsr doesnt start help Sad , basically i was on holiday for 2 weeks down south and left keys with cousin, came back and it wont start, initially thought it was a battery problem so charged the battery for 1 hour and a half but still wont start, neutral light work etc although once i started the ignition it buzzes, if i hold on then after a bit u can hear a bit of a ticking sound as well as the buzzing, my cousin has admitted that he did infact rev it when the bike was not on (satistfy his lust for not having a license, i dont no Confused ) anyways could it be that its flooded? and if so how do i go about correcting this problem? also where can i get a spark plug tool? or what your guys use to remove spark plug, spanner? sorry if i sound it bit off, i am not exactly a mechanical person.

I had that, basically your battery is flat and if you can't charge it there is a good chance you need a new one. They are only about £15-£20. But first I would try charging the battery over night.

Holding the throttle open while the bike is off won't do much, if it does you just need to leave the bike for a few minutes and the fuel will evaporate or something.

sorry about the confusion, what i meant to say is after charging the battery, the battery is all good, neutral light, side stand light, even lights are bright and in full working order, its the starting am hearing noises of ticking and buzzez? need to figure how to take that spark plug out Laughing and i thought reving without the engine on causes severe flooding and perhaps engine seizure?

the ticking noise you are hearing is the starter solenoid opening and closing, meaning the battery is not charged enough.

When I replaced my battery I charged it over night, about 16 hours maybe? Might have been more time than was necessary but the battery hasn't failed me for a year now. *Touches Wood*.

nah doing this doesn't really cause anything as the carb needs air going through the venturi to suck up the petrol from the float chamber. what your thinking of is "hydraulicing" this happens when petrol tap is left on and if the float valve is stuck open then your carb will flood and opening the throttle will let more petrol into the carb. this only mainly happens on a 4-stroke as on a 2-stroke it will just seep past the reed valves and into bottom of engine whereas on a 4-stroke if inlet valves is open then it will go into chamber and when you start bike there will be to much preasure there as fluid doesnt compress as much as vapour so it could snap conrod and f*ck up engine big time.

as you say it is making a tickling noise, is the engine actually spinning over, if not its your starting system. and to check the plug just take it out and place it on surface of the engine that is not painted (bolt) and press the starter button for 2-3 seconds and see if there is a good spark.

just charge the battery, or if it's a 12 volt system jump-start it from a car. one hour is not long enough to give it enough charge to start the engine. Even if the lights and everything work fine, turning over the engine takes a lot of amperage.

sorry guys but bump starting is a no no, 1stly i live on a main road, and 2ndly how the bike( most likly me Laughing ) may react to such methods, have had the bike just under a month, and did my cbt on a scooter (thinking that at the time am going to buy a scooter, but that went down the drain Very Happy )

i left the charge on all night (12v), just tried starting it now and no more ticking, however am hearing a 'clang' sort of noise, its sort like a chain spinning, although its still not starting up, and about the spark plug, i need to buy a wrench, would this set do? and what website do the best deals on iridium spark plug, i herd they the best to use.

oh by the way thanks for the help so far guys Very Happy

It sounds like your battery is fucked to be honest. The 'clang' is probably the engine trying to turn over but failing.

I really would try jump-starting it from a car.

if you hear the starter spinning and not the engine turning it's because the pinion doesnot engage the flywheel . could be 2 possibilities :
- battery is worn (not enough power even full charged) easy to test : if you have not 12,8V .........
- starter needs maintenance : download my file https://www.geneva-racing.com/~alains/NSRtips.doc and look the starter repair
