This evening several transits and caravans have broken down the gate to the school field at the end of our road and set up camp there.

We and several neighbors have phoned the police, they seem to be spectacularly disinterested. We are not sure why although we suspect it is because despite the criminal damage of breaking the gate there is no proof as to who did that and once they are in it becomes a civil matter not a criminal one.

I've also phoned our local councillors and left a couple of messages on their answerphones.

I'd like to know what happens next? Who has to evict these people and how long does it take? In the meantime if stuff starts to go missing locally would a bit of summary justice work do you think?

It's particularly galling because our council is one of the few in the area (possibly even the country) to provide transit campsites for travellers but they don't use them because apparently they are not in a very good area.......... Rolling Eyes

A stance needs to be take nationally against non-tax paying pikie scum. They should be forced to register on a national database of travelling leeches. If they refuse to contribute towards society, they should then have their 2006 Range Rover confiscated, and should be refused any NHS services.

Are the local children able to safely get to and from school?

I would have thought the police would become slightly more interested when they realise that several hundred children will be without education until the travellers are moved on...?

The problem with travellers and councils/police is that it is simply to much bother to prosecute someone who is of no fixed abode.

Indeed.

I don’t know if it was on here, but I think someone had mentioned that, while it may be annoying to you also; you can get some explosive style bird-deterrent devices.

This were on basically a fuse-string and would fire at set intervals (ie every half hour), sounding like a shot gun. Leaving some of these randomly concealed around their site to go off at night etc may convince them to leave – or may get them more annoyed.

Seeing that one of the first problems is getting a specific individual prosecuted, I’ve wondered in the past if there would be something in making a CCTV tower near their site – the idea being so that you can at least get evidence of individuals doing stuff in the area. Of course, whether prosecuting them would actually do anything is another matter.

Call the police and mention something about how you've seen them with guns. Wink

Wait and see if they're causing any trouble. If they're not, let them stay there.

I know what it's like to live on the road and they've probably only come here because of the discrimination they've faced everywhere else.

Nothing wrong with them living on the road, its when stopped that they cause problems by stealing everything that isn't bolted down. Wink And I don't really think it's discrimination when peoples prejudices are because of past encounters with gypsies...

Something tells me that they aren't peace loving gypsy folk.

I suspect that they are more likely to be the kind of people whow have absolute contempt for civilised society.
The sort of people who would happily break into a school, rip up the fields, let thier ponies, dangerous dogs and diseased children run wild, organise a 24hrs endurance banger race using cars stolen from the locality, raid the school for all it's worth and then finally move on leaving thier litter and feaces scattered far and wide.

Maybe I'm being prejudiced, but I doubt it.

Everywhere except the half-empty transit camp that is less than 8 miles from here? Rolling Eyes

Perhaps you could explain what a hard life they have to the local high school kids who have just lost the use of their sports pitch for the forseeable.

I see no reason why they can't set up on land that has been specifically set aside for their use (except that call me uncharitable if you will the site is well away from local residential areas so there is nothing for them to nick and nobody for them to intimidate with offers of "work" or selling tat) or even disused land fair enough, but a school sports pitch that is barriered and clearly marked as such at the entrance? Come on, they're taking the piss...........

If they're a bunch of twats, then I'd get the police to come and sort it.

If, on the other hand, they're peaceful travellers, and they weren't camped out on a sports pitch, I'd say let them get on with it.

One of the sparks from work today came in with a picture of his dad using a JCB to lift both a pikey's car and caravan (With him in it screaming through the window) one after the other away from somebodys land.

His dad is a bailiff... see what local one can do for you for the right ££ maybe?

This makes me laugh, lots. As it only reminds me of a few years ago when my town, Altrincham was swarmed by gypsys, and they managed to set up shop on a scruffy old car park, pretty much bang in the middle of Alty centre. I'd not only seen but heard of more scuffles with them and the police and even after a rough 4 to 5 weeks after their arrival they were still there.

One day driving near the car park I noticed that the council had put up big metal barriers (with height restrictors) and lots of big rocks about a cubed metre along the barriers of the car park, thus stopping them get out. What made even more hilarious was the fact that I had a friend who was mates with one of the contractors to put in the metal barriers and the rocks and told me a good few stories about that day. Either way the gypsy's kicked off and said they couldn't do what they were planning to, in the end they managed to finish their job and within 24 hours they were all gone. Laughing There was an old mini metro smashed up with one of the rocks pushed out into the adjacent road which gave them enough room to pull their caravans through the gap. Laughing

Call the police, tell them that some of them appear to be asian and the sound of the adhan so early is pissing you off. Then mention, casually, that you're worried about what seem to be AK47s and what sounds like explosions.

He's a lucky twat then, my mate's cousin got shot for having a go at a pikey, then having a fight with him, others came out and he was shot in the back, his family are fucking mentalists though, so they went back and a proper battle took place, that was on the lane he lives on, pikey's still live there years on, but they respect him now.

It does make me laugh when people go on about taking them on though, if you do that you have to have some PROPER balls and some really nutty mates.

I for one would stay well out of their way till they fuck off.

get your local pub landlord to get a vicious guard dog, he has to keep the dog in his yard with big signs up saying beware of the guard dog, hopefully this will entice the pikeys to steal the dog and when the landlord goes on telly or the local news paper to say that the dog is likely to injure the people who took it, pikey will start laughing about the theft prior to the dog almost ripping apart one of their pikey children, they will then feel really stupid, and leave to cover their embarrassment

well it worked for the landlord of the pub near me in newcastle a few years back Laughing

If only...... just 2 miles from the centre of town and a good 10 miles and at least 5 sets of lights in any direction to get to a decent road to ride my bike on........ Sad

Looks like it may get interesting in a couple of days if they are still here. The field they are on is across the road from our local recreation ground, and this week is our "Walking Day" carnival, which means the fair people will be starting to arrive on Wed. Apparently they don't get on?

Walking day AGAIN so soon?!

I wonder if they're the ones that were under the railway bridge by Central.

Nope, that is a fixed site that belongs to the show people and they are pretty sound, mostly out on the road now though.

These appear to be mostly Irish, and arrived in transits and 4x4s. Interestingly most of the non-caravan vehicles have been off the field all day today so I'm wondering if maybe they are working somewhere local? To be fair to them they have been pretty quiet so far (apart from their gennys going all bleeding night Evil or Very Mad ) and have stayed in the field, no sign of them over this side of the hedge. Can't help wondering what they are doing with their waste though, there is nowhere for miles that is suitable for disposal of it. Confused

Works all the time this one....
As they cannot get any of the car/vans out they cannot fill the site with scrap junk. This then means they cannot make any money at the local scrap yards or where ever they take the stuff too.
This then means they kick off to get a opening, which is provided on the grounds that they leave the site straight away or court proceedings are started. As they cannot leave they cannot do a bunk the night before to avoid any eviction orders on the site...
Also save the council a small fortune, read tax payers in clearing the site afterwards.
