Can anyone with a GPZ500s with rear disc brake tell me how long their pads last?
Mine have gone down to the metal in less than 6 months - approx 3500 miles.

My cousin rides his zxr750 without ever using the rear brake unless its an emergency, but he doesn't exactly hang around. I prefer to share my braking 80% - 20% unless its wet then I share it more evenly. I don't ride my bike too hard (it's not exactly a sports bike) but my EBC organic pads have not lasted long at all. My front brake lever is on the max setting just to get some strength in it, otherwise I feel like I'm about to leave a brake lever print in my hot grips!!!

I often have my wife as pillion but as I've said in other threads she's not that heavy & doesn't make much difference when under braking.

Can anyone recommend another company that do pads for a D3 1996 GPZ500S? I only realised when I changed the pads this morning that I've stupidly bought the same make again! Will be interesting to see how long these ones last!

Sounds more like your brakes need stripping and rebuilding.

Are you sure that the brakes aren't binding slightly causing them to prematurely wear down?

The single-pot rear disc brakes on kawasakis of that era are all shite. They munch pads without ever seeming to slow you down very much. They sometimes spit a pad totally out too.

I have not come up with anything that improves them.

As for the front. Fit a braided steel brake line, clean up the callipers and pistons while you're there, fit EBC HH sintered pads and prepare to be amazed at the difference it makes.

Found the same happened to mine but I don't really use my back brake anymore!

strip them down and see if that works but other than that, can't think of much else other than replacing with a brake thats better. You'd have to find out which ones would fit, measuring the distance between the mounting points etc.
