errrrrrrr Honda CB 125 T 1979 rpm????

hi,
I have been told that my Honda CB 125 T 1979 is revving high at 700, is this right ????????? I have no idea as I am a real newbie, any help or info would be really appreciated thanks,

Is it idling at 700rpm or did you miss-spell 7000rpm? doesnt sound bad too me if its idling at 700rpm but all bikes vary.

An early CB125T with spoked wheels and cable operated disc brake revs ludicrously high, a good bit over 10,000rpm anyway. I seem to recall the redline being 11k or maybe even higher.

The later ones with the alloy comstar wheels revved a bit lower but certainly WAY over 7,000rpm. I think the redline was around 10,000rpm on them. I used to take mine all the way up there on a regular basis.

Yes sorry I did mean 7000, many thanks for the replies, I must now tell the car mechanic who is trying to fix it that it is normal !!!!!!!!!!!, ha ha ha, thanks again for the replies,

Just realised I may have misread your question.

The engine should IDLE (ie, sat without you touching the throttle) at somewhere between 1,000 and 1,500rpm. When riding it, it is normal to rev it up to the redline which is as I mentioned before.

If it is idling at 7,000rpm, this is not normal. On a bike that old, it probably means there is an air leak round the rubber bit that attaches the carburettor to the engine.
