Ipod still won't sync with itunes..

Starting to get pissed off now... computer picks up the ipod in My Computer but Itunes doesn't!! When I open itunes with the IPod plugged in, it crashes itunes, in system properties "ipodservice.exe" is running at 100% and computer CPU is at 100% until I end task on the ipodservice!!!

I have upgraded to Service Pack 2 - no luck

fitted a new USB 2 card - no luck

updated to latest itunes - no luck

any ideas??

the ipod itself works fine as I've had it working on a friends laptop with no problems.. I even reformatted it etc but that didn't help it either!!!

No, second hand.. but as I say, I reformatted it and theres no problem on other computers.. just seems somethings wrong with my PC...
